Anonymity is passé
One of our initial arguments for starting IMVocal was that people like to be anonymous. After many discussions with VC-types, people-who-been-there-done-that, scouring through different social networks, we finally realized that no one really wants to be anonymous. But at the same time people want to be protected and shielded from on thing that is closest to them. Its their PHONE NUMBERS! So we totally abandoned the word anonymity from our vocabulary and learnt a new one called ‘pseudonymity’.
IMVocal provides just that, a pseudonumber which we call the VOCAL-ID that you can use to converge all your online identities and expose them to the Phone-world using a single number. At the moment we support Gtalk,Yahoo, MSN and AOL. But will soon be supporting others as well.
So why IMVocal? Now instead of giving your IM id to someone who needs to reach you and has to be in front of the PC and have internet connectivity, they can just call IMVocal’s toll-free number (1-888-87-VOCAL) and then dial your VOCALID. You could be in online sipping coffee working away on your laptop at a starbucks in downtown Manhattan or sitting in a hotel room in Tokyo, all you need is to be connected to the internet. Your friends and family or your so called ‘friends’ who really are acquaintances six degrees from you in your social-networking-site, can reach you. Plus they do all this TOLL FREE! The neat thing about this concept is that where-ever you are on the globe, your VOCALID never changes. Oh yeah! and you dont have to give away your phone numbers to your ’six-degrees-away friends’ either.
