One other thing. You will also need to add a statement in your dialplan (extensions.conf) to send outbound calls to your provider as well as a context to allow inbound calls.

Sample:

[outbound-context]
exten => _1NXXNXXNXXX,1,Dial(SIP/${EXTEN}@to_sipprovider) :sends Long distance calls to your provider
exten => _NXXNXXNXXX,1,Dial(SIP/${EXTEN}@to_sipprovider) ;sends 10 digit local calls to your provider
exten => _NXXNXXX,1,Dial(SIP/${EXTEN}@to_sipprovider) ;sends 7 digit local calls to your provider

[inbound-context]
exten => X.,1,Dial(SIP/yourusername,20) ;will send any inbound calls to your sip phone

Here is a generic config of what is working for me. Hope this helps.

;GLOBAL SETTINGS FOR THE ASTERISK SIP CHANNEL

[general]
context=from_outside ; Name of your context for incoming calls
realm=xxx.com ; Realm for digest authentication if required
bindport=5060 ; UDP Port to bind to (SIP standard port for
bindaddr=0.0.0.0 ; IP address to bind UDP listen socket to (0.0.0.0
srvlookup=yes ; Enables DNS SRV lookups on outbound calls
disallow=all
allow=ulaw
allow=gsm
language=en

;REGISTER STATEMENTS
; You must have a register statement AFTER the general section above and BEFORE the contexts below

register => training3:training@192.168.1.1    ;yourusername:yourpassword@yourprovidersipaddress(or domain name)

;Then in addition to your x-lite context, add a context for your provider as follows
; This will allow you to direct calls to your provider

[to_sipprovider ]
type = peer
username = yourusername
fromuser = yourusername
fromdomain = yourdomain.com ;if applicable
secret = yourpassword
canreinvite = no
insecure = invite,port
host=192.168.1.1   ;your providers ipaddress
deny = 0.0.0.0/0
permit = 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.255 ;you could remove the deny and permit any if you prefer
disallow = all
allow = gsm
allow = ulaw
allow = alaw
qualify = yes
nat = no
