Just to clarify a few things:

I have checked, double-checked, triple-checked - changed and redone, checked again and quadruple checked and the Usernames & Passwords are correct.

I don't think its the phones themselves, as I have read posts elsewhere with other people experiencing the same problem with other phones, but as yet I haven't come across anyone who has a solution :-(

I tried registering the same extension from X-Lite and it does work :-S very confusing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cisco 7940 Registration Problems with Asterisk

Posted:Thu 01 of Jan, 2009 (19:59 UTC)
Hi,

After spending many days trying to convert my Cisco 7940s to SIP I now have them up and running, but they are unable to register with Asterisk.

Examining the Asterisk SIP Debug information it appears that this is the SIP conversation between the phone/asterisk:

CISCO: Register me without a password
Asterisk: Trying
Asterisk: Sorry you need a password
CISCO: Register me without a password
Asterisk: Trying
Asterisk: Sorry you need a password
CISCO: Register me without a password
Asterisk: Trying
Asterisk: Sorry you need a password

etc...

I have configured the phone correctly with all of the SIP registration information, but it doesn't appear to be sending it to Asterisk.

AFAIK The phone should try to register without a password, then asterisk returns a 401 Unauthorized, and the phone tries again WITH the credentials requested?

In my case this isn't happening :-(

FYI here is the registration request from the 7940 (I have sanitised the Public IP addresses to X and Y - X being the phone IP and Y being Asterisk)
