Avaya One-X 9630 (96xx series) + 3rd party SIP VoIP providers (Betamax?)

Hello!

I have been trying to find an answer to this but to no avail.

I am wondering if I can use an Avaya One-X 9630 (96xx series) together with a 3rd party SIP VoIP provider such as Betamax, SipGate, Poivy and the like?

I am running the SIP version of the firmware on the phone and it has entries for proxies, usernames and passwords, however when I set these settings, all I get is Logging in... and it stays stuck on Acquiring Service...

It gets full network access from the DHCP server including DNS entries, gateway, correct IP address and I can ping other servers from the phone without a problem so network access is not the issue.

Any ideas if these phones can be used on their own without an Avaya server sitting in the middle? You would think so since they have a SIP Server settings menu both in their configuration file and in their own on-device menu...
