I'm using a Cisco7940 running SIP. I believe that this is a reserved command for transfer and to force the end of a dial string. So starting with a # in #*55* will drop the call at #.

What is special about the pound sign? I didn't have to make any special configuration to make this work on my Zap phone. (TDM11B card, and I dial the sequences from an analog phone connected to an fxs module.)

I can't get it working from X-Lite on my PC, however, and I don't know why.
