2005- Founder of IPware Telecommunications
Various employments in Industry in the this time frame all working with VoIP and Network Engineering.
Ipware.ca and voipware.org are two sites being maintained currently by myself. Voipware.org is supposed to be a non profit research institute for research and development, its turned into a personal site for my exploits on VOIP and whatever turns my crank on a daily basis. IPware.ca is supposed to be the corporate website, unfortunately I have not had time to put together the corporate website and rely on consulting contracts for the time being.
My specialization from past experience is in the areas of voice recognition within the asterisk/freeswitch framework, MIMO wireless PBX infrastructure and peer to peer integration via peer to peer protocol integration (skype betemax services) along with inter-operation technologies to do what asterisk scope has been to bring all services together under one roof for communications freedom. Although I am not a Huge fan of Asterisk I do use it a lot for commercial purposes. I am in the process of designing and developing my own telephony software which will allow high definition TV over wireless. Obviously it will take some time, it will be open source as I believe a billion amateurs or experts for that matter is better then just 1 head.
I am interested in "Free" Energy Systems by Tesla Edwin Gray and the likes of Bedini and am looking forward to doing research in this area this summer 2008. We all know nothing is Free, lets just for all practical purposes call it trying to get to 100% efficiency to keep everyone happy so no rocks are thrown by way.
2008-
I also am an avid researcher in open source exploitation for learning and expert systems.
AI has been the field of (unrealistic people) I know I might receive some backlash for this statement but, its really been out of whack with reality.
We may create a Terminator III style robot sometime in man kinds history but it wont happen in my life time with the current state of affairs with research. The effective potential that would be required to pull this off is only possible by the collaboration of the world under 1 roof as a community such as the open source movement.
Which brings me to my second point. GNU GPL is not just for software its for everything in life be it IP ( Intellectual property) or hardware as the mutual work of many for the greater good is far better then the work of a few.
With that, having a few people try to accomplish a practical AI implementation of the order of Terminator III is like asking go to the center of the earth and watch the magnetic effects of the plasma core in real time. Real Pseudo AI implementation exist, I would call them intelligence software and intelligence recognition techniques such as OCR ( Optical character recognition) with a database or reservoir of impressionable data (neural network) which for the most part are nothing more then mathematical approximations to try to coax a desired result. I am sure the Business guys with MBAs can relate, well a Neural network is like needs based selling a lolly pop to a computer except your trying to get give the computer the context ( background knowledge) it needs to like the lolly pop. As a kid you know a lolly pop is a good thing because it is sweet and sweet things are good, now how do you get a computer to this level. The answer is you can program it with logic or "general knowledge" but lets get real here, this computer you speak of is not going to learn the way a kid learns because a computer isnt going to try to swallow some dirt and find it it tastes like dirt then swallow some cookie crumbs on the floor and go yummy then figure out lolly pops are a good thing.
Its not happening because who we are are as a person is dictated by our experiences in life and that is very difficult to emulate because of the unlimited choices one makes on a daily basis, its like an endless three dimensional matrix with unlimited variables and you are asked to solve it. You would look at the examiner close your eyes and pick a number and say yeah thats the solution. And you know what, your not that far from the truth on that answer, sometimes choices can be completely random.
You can also ask the CEO of Intel or AMD and they will agree, our computing potential even with all the super computers in the world put together and considerations of Moore's law ever going to emulate the last 20 years of any single persons life with the choices they have made almost completely autonomously? the answer is no.
Alright now that I have destroyed any hope of respecting anyone that claims AI is really AI and not just a glorified approximation engine. We can ask the question are there systems even close to AI? Well thankfully there is hope, there are systems that allow voice recognition and disposition of large amounts of information "intelligently" I know this may sound like a hypocritical statement because I just said there was no such thing as AI but "intelligence" if we consider a purely imperialistic point of view can be considered by relation and approximations.
If we have two piles of sugar and we want a system to pick the larger pile of sugar well we can program our scanner or sensor to do some visual calculations to see how much surface area and space the sugar occupies and then know how much sugar is in each pile and thus pick the larger pile mathematically. To a laymen this would appear as intelligence. To someone that knows better its nothing more then measurements and pure empirical theory, the point is similar approximations can be indexed to allow systems to work "intelligently" from a laymen point of view to someone that knows any better there is no such thing as "self thinking" at least not in the usable "hal" or "terminator III" analogy.
With all that out of the way, because I just cant for good measure ever agree to telling anyone we are doing an expert self thinking machine, we DCal which stands for Dynamic Computer Aided learning have put together an Expert system to help students learn in the format of an Autonomous Open University
A site called openuniversities.ca to showcases the open source initiative to give students at different levels the opportunity to learn the fundamentals without monetary funding requirements, it goes back to the European university system where the state picks up the tab, here the internet picks up the tab for open source autonomous learning. The word autonomous learning will be picked up by these AI "special people" as look look its AI your doing AI, well not really please re-read what I just said in the last few stanzas.
Its autonomous in the sense that the infrastructure does not require human intervention after being setup, but someone still has to feed the raw data even if the system does most of the manipulation and is self sustaining it still cant learn everything on its own and needs stimuli to establish a knowledge base.
The premise being that it doesn't matter if your learning from an autonomous expert system or from an expert human being your learning nonetheless, and your knowledge can be metered by conventional metrics.
Knowledge isn't power ( these people are capitalists), its empowerment to use to change our world, copy left what you know and make a difference
Its an evolving IP-a-ware landscape, IPware can help....
