Kwame Darkwah

My name is Kwame Darkwah, I was born on January 9 1988 and I am a second year IMT major at Syracuse Univrsity. I am the second oldest of my siblings, together we are four; my older sister, myself, my younger brother, and my little sister. I believe I had always had a passion for technology and computers, I can remember being the "computer monitor" in my elementary school days helping my classmates use the old "Mac Classic II". Back then that old beast was "bleeding edge". Its surprising, now that I look back, how fast technology has evolved to what it is today.

When I was 11 my parents moved us to Ghana to continue our education, they believed that the educational system over there was far superior at the junior and senior high school levels than that of the US; they where right. I spent six years in the "British style" educational system, I believe this played a significant role in making me who I am today. While in Ghana I perused studies in the area of business, taking classes in accounting and finance (Thats what Dad wanted). However, I knew I still had deep passion for technology.

I returned to the US when I was 17 to complete the last two years of my high school career. During this time I acted in the capacity of Systems Admin form my high school, setting up AD and maintaining its computer labs. During those last two years I would continue to work at my high school and intern at the Subotnick Financial Services Center, there I maintained the machines on the trading floor and troubleshot issues with the various computers and terminals. Through that internship I was introduced to the guys at Sky Technologies. This was a company contracted to do some of the more demanding tasks and maintenance. I would go on to work with SkyTech after the internship, I worked at sites like Chase's Core Data Center CDC1 and CDC2 in Brandywine Delaware; thats how I spent my weekends.

During my last semester of high school, I would hangout after classes were over and myself and a few friends would have informal study sessions for the Comptia A+ and Network+ certifications. I never had the guts to actually take the exam, but I learned a lot. I was accepted to Syracuse University where I am currently perusing my undergraduate degree. Here I currently work for Professor Molta in the Center for Emerging Network Technologies. I would one year later continue on, interning for AOL Time Warner in there programming group during long breaks.
