333Good phone, despite tough config

by juzzin, Monday 12 of December, 2005 [18:40:05 UTC]
Good phone, but the firmware needs much improvement. Configuration of the 9112i is frustrating to say the least. I spent hours configuring the phone unsuccessfully. After trudging through poor documentation and confusing configuration methods, I finally managed to get it configured as needed. Management of the phone's configuration is accomplished via a general, phone-specific (mac) config file and a web gui. Unfortunately, the current firmware still has difficulty with settings becoming stale and not properly being applied. ie: changing dial-plan in the web gui, then clearing and adding to config file will fail. (must reset phone's local config, then re-apply configs via config file)

That said, as they come, this is a good VoIP phone. It's relatively cheap, solidly-constructed and has very good audio quality. Most of the issues are software-related, and will be resolved soon enough. In the meantime, the phone can be used well. Configuration frustration can be avoided with some insights not found in the documentation, but above.
