Asterisk sound files additional

Additional sound files for Asterisk

These sounds were recorded by Allison Smith, who does PBX voicemail voices for hire and is the voice of Asterisk. She does a great job!

This library is partly created thanks to a generous grant from VoicePulse and from members of the Asterisk community that donated funding necessary to order them from Allison.

These sounds have been donated to the Asterisk community. Many of these sounds will probably find their way into the Asterisk standard distribution (notably the number enunciations, which are useful for speaking dates.) However, the rest are for general consumption.

These sounds are BSD-licensed, meaning that they can be used for any purpose, including incorporation into commercial packages. Since voice prompts can't really be modified and/or improved, putting them in the GPL just seems a bit silly.

If you have prompts that you want to donate to the project, please mail them to the maintainer of this library, John Todd

If you want to use the prompts available in this library, but would like alternative choices of the voice, you can download professionally studio-recorded full replacement voice-packs for Asterisk from Voice Vector Media at http://www.VoiceVector.com. Inexpensive custom recording services are also available from Voice Vector Media to expand and customize the voice-packs. As of December 19, 2006, the company's website is offering custom recordings services at half price.

Pre-packaged Sound Files

You can download from http://downloads.asterisk.org/pub/telephony/sounds/releases/ - search for "extra-sounds"

How to download these files for Asterisk 1.2 (not 1.4 or newer)

Update: cvs has been replaced by svn!
Follow the instructions on http://www.asterisk.org/index.php?menu=download for CVS download
The sound files initially get created in /usr/src/asterisk-sounds directory

cd /usr/src
export CVSROOT=:pserver:anoncvs@cvs.digium.com:/usr/cvsroot
cvs login - the password is anoncvs.
cvs checkout asterisk-sounds
cd asterisk-sounds
make install

If you want to update, enter the asterisk-sounds directory and do a cvs update.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, all files get installed in /var/lib/asterisk/sounds by default
