CALEA = Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act of 1994

American law that mandates that traditional phone companies provide the ability for law enforcement agencies to receive call data on a target or to be able to listen in on phone conversations.

In May 2006 the FCC mandated that VOIP providers also comply with CALEA within 90 days.
