Notes

This phone uses the same software as the Linksys WIP300. I believe that the one I just received has newer firmware than the latest relased version by Linksys.

DLink also sells a DPH-541which differs only in color.

333VPN for VoIP Blocking

by jenniferhan, Wednesday 12 of December, 2007 [06:21:16 UTC]
Somebody use VPN to solve the VoIP Blocking issue. But it seems not a good way to solve the voip blocking issue. Because VPN will take more bandwidth and will take effection on the Voice Quality

Currently I am using the VGCP, a new solution to solve the VoIP Blocking issue. Following is theirs website:

If any of you have interested, you may try to use it to solve your VoIP Blocking problems. Thanks.

333DPH-540 OK for us.

by CMCElectronics, Saturday 06 of October, 2007 [23:58:25 UTC]
We don't mind the DLink DPH-540 and if you want to get rid of yours and move to a different model, we will purchase any that are in working condition. The electronics of this phone seem to appear under several different brand names. Does anyone know them all?

333No Accessories or Batteries

by lnienhaus, Wednesday 03 of October, 2007 [21:20:46 UTC]
A couple of months ago I purchased about 40 D-Link DPH-540 WIFI/VOIP phone for use with our Asterisk IP/PBX. We based our decision to purchase these phones because of the reviews on them (great range) and the promise of accesories to come from D-Link for them. Several months later I contacted D-Link about the accessories and was told they decided not to pursue them because they were going to release a new model in 2008. That was just the first hit. I just contacted D-Link the other day about replacement battery packs(LIons) and I was told "We do not currently have a way to replace the batteries, you must replace the entire phone." I have looked all over the Internet for a battery but they are custom packs that are just not available. Needless to say it is the last D-Link product I will touch.

333Similarities to WIP300/330

by lennys26, Monday 11 of June, 2007 [10:27:25 UTC]
I am in the process of returning my second WIP330 and in researching what to replace it with, I came across DPH-540 phone however I have read that it runs the same firmware.

Is this true... or better yet is this a more stable version or am I going to be left with another disappointment?

Physically, I like the way the 540 looks, but want to know its functionality a bit more...

Thanks.

333DPH-540

Been playing with one of these things for 2 weeks. Here is what i learned so far.
With Version 1.00.14 software.
Audio quality is good. Hardly any stuttering when connected. I do get delayed audio sometimes.
Reception is comparable to some of my 200MW PCMCIA cards. In an quiet RF environment it will work for 1 mile.
It works well with Asterisk. Did not play with the Email functions.

Now for the bad stuff.

No luck with FWD. Might be my fault. The manual is lacking details.

The antenna can be unscrewed from unit, but you cant attach anything to the hole left by the removal.
Any reference to an external antenna is sales pitch about the small nub of the antenna sticking out of the unit.

Roaming is a joke. I cant fully test all of the possibility's but here is what i know.
The manual claims you can only associate with a AP that broadcasts ESSID. It works fine without this.
I can get to switch from an AP with no WEP, to one with WEP, but not back, or the other way around, without rebooting the unit.
I can see the new AP i want with the built in software, but cant force it to switch to it if it can still see the old AP no matter what i put into the roaming setting sections.

The battery monitoring software always shows the unit is fully charged until the unit dies. Nothing in between.
If left on for a while the unit will show "No Network ..." When plugged in to power it reregisters. Seems like a power problem.
If it is not registered to something and left on, the unit gets warm. When registered it stays cool. Seems like some kind of RF power management.

Called tech. support. All over seas. Bad quality audio. Sounds like the person was in an wind storm.
All 3 times just as the person was going to explain the problem THEY HUNG UP. Hmmm.
Tried Email. Got a response 5 days later, Was told all wireless settings must be the same.
For the battery problem, they said
"I will suggest that you take the unit back to the point of purchase for a swap or call technical support for assistance.

I am hoping for a software upgrade for my expensive cordless phone soon..
James.

333What is the mw on these phones

by joecanadian, Friday 16 of February, 2007 [01:38:26 UTC]
SOmething I have not seen on this phone or the linksys one is what is the mw of the phone.. I am a avid wifi network hopper and I found the cheepo dlink wireless card I had was not enough to connect if I ventured resonable distance from the router (wrt54gs v32 freetalisman)
I know the intel 100mw and the 300mw card I bought i can connect don the street ..

Before I make a big purchace does anyone know what kind of mw this phone has or the inksys or heck even what the attena is rated for?

I know with my 7dbi magnet mount attena makes a world of diffrence.. is the attena removable .. ? what is the dbi on it?

333Difference between WIP-300 And DPH-540

by soupalognon, Tuesday 05 of December, 2006 [03:41:45 UTC]
Did someone did a test with the phone using multiple AP (Access Point)? With my WIP-300 when i change AP, the phone freeze, can someone confirm the DPH-540 handle the switch AP without any freeze ? let say the phone is idle, you go out of your access point, and after 5/10 minutes you have access to another AP, does the phone reconnect automaticly ?

Another question, with my WIP-300 sometime when i leave it on the table with the power on and registered on the sip server, after a while (did not know how long) it display Registering, and i have to recycle the power.

I want to buy the DPH-540 but i had so bad experience with my WIP-300 i don't want to spend big $$$ on another phone without having review from another owner.

Thanks for talking time to answer me.

Steve.

333Re: Firmware Differences to the WIP-300

by Have_Blue, Monday 04 of December, 2006 [21:15:34 UTC]
I tried applying the latest WIP300 firmware to a DPH-540, but no luck - I don't recall the exact error message, but the phone does check the firmware image to make sure that the image is compatible. No worries about bricking the unit, it appears.
<p>
Overall, I like the hardware of the D-Link better than the Linksys - the battery door is much more secure, and the clamshell design keeps the screen from getting scuffed up. Only minus (and it's not really a big deal) is that the display is a passive LCD. I thought the firmware had a nifty fade effect for screen switches, but it was just the horrid refresh of the display! Both units are much more prone to lockups after being left on for long periods than I'd like, but even so, the DPH-540 and WIP300 are the best Wifi VoIP phones on the market right now, IMHO.

after looking through the web GUI of the phone I noticed under the network profiles section that there was a place to upload CA certificates and private key files. This tells me that the phone may have some unlockable VPN capabilities. maybe in a newer version of the firmware? hopefully, because that would make registering these phones on other networks really easy.
