333GVLine Setup

by viceer, Monday 26 of March, 2007 [15:16:44 UTC]
Hi, does anyone here have also problems setting up the asterisk to work with gafachi Virtual Line (GVLine)? I had recently purchased for a virtual line but still my number gets busy when someone is already on the line. Help will be appreciated... Thanks.

333Good rates, good quality

by wikiwiki, Tuesday 21 of November, 2006 [00:45:09 UTC]
I had problems with these guys when I first attempted to setup my account. One of the previous anonymous comments is probably mine.

However, about a year ago I attempted to use the service again and I've been using it ever since. It works great with my Sipura SPA-2100 and the G.711 codecs. The G.729 codec produces horrible call quality for me, but call quality is very good with the G.711's. On occasion there is a slight delay, but that is to be expected with VoIP.

I actually got it working...

...after Gafachi contacted me (a month after my initial technical support request, as I was becoming irate, they finally acknowledged my existence). I found out that I had misunderstood a setting. In my own defense, it was poorly explained on the website, which has virtually no documentation.

The text on the website makes it sound as if IP authentication is a fallback option, in case MD5 is not working. I was trying anything and everything to make the system work, so I provided every available piece of information I could give. I filled in this setting. Here's the actual text of the www.gafachi.com website:

"Configuration on this page applies to Termination (outbound calls) only. By default our network requires calls to be authenticated via MD5. If your equipment/software is incapable of this, and you would like to use IP-based authentication, you can enter your IP Address(es) below."

After which, I was doomed.
Finally tech support wrote me this:

"If you do not have a static IP address, you must remove these IP addresses from our system. If IP-based authentication is setup in our system, this will over ride MD5 authentication. Xten X-lite softphone is capable of authenticating via MD5."

And then the light dawned! Ahhhh.... I am now making phone calls. CHEAP phone calls. Cheap, good quality phone calls.

Thanks!!

I'm making a big guess here, but have you tried changing your SIP register timeout to something smaller, say 900 seconds?

333newbie: Begging Help with Config

by synapticdata, Thursday 30 of March, 2006 [02:46:47 UTC]
I am using: CounterPath/xten X-Lite SIP Soft Phone, RoadRunner Broadband service, and all the default settings indicated by the /config_xlite example page on Gafachi website. Have paid them my money, so the brand-new account is active with positive balance. I keep getting "Login timed out! Contact Network Admin." error. SIP REGISTER worked, and I can see my computer's IP info reflected on the Gafachi page. I'm stuck in a finger-pointing exercise, where Gafachi says XLite should offer a resolution, and XLite website indicates that this error occurs when an invalid login/password is provided... But I know that the username and password are correct. I think my network service and choice of SIP phone are about as mainstream/popular as any. I have rehashed my settings a hundred times. Aaarrrgh! Does anybody have a working example configuration they could provide me, please?? Advice? Please please please. I have researched, but everything I find doesn't fit. Am I forgetting something fundamental?... like, must I have Asterisk to use my SIP phone? All I want is termination service for outbound calls, no DID, no voicemail, no frills. All help appreciated.

333Re: What wholesale VoIP should be

by enzo, Tuesday 31 of January, 2006 [01:46:48 UTC]
In recent months, Gafachi has announced technical changes that appear consistent with a replacement of their gateways with others not based on Asterisk: IAX support dropped, GSM and iLBC codecs replaced by G.729. This may be the cause of reported improvements in quality: a similar development has been observed for Finarea's services such as VoipStunt, SIPDiscount and VoipBuster.

333What wholesale VoIP should be

by Fortune500, Wednesday 21 of December, 2005 [17:06:06 UTC]
I have been using gafachi for quite sometime now and have had nothing but perfect quality for both domestic and international calls. Unlike previous providers I have tried, gafachi has not had any outages. I terminate over 500,000 min/month with gafachi and have seen significant savings. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a wholesale provider.

Good rates, but the call quality I've experienced isn't very good. I would recommend trying someone else.
