333Not what it is cracked up to be...
Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Nichole'
Nichole: Hello, how may I assist you?
you: Hello. I am a Lingo customer currently. Do you offer any sort of discounts (e.g. waived activation) for me to switch to you?
Nichole: We do not unfortunately.
you: ok, thank you. Surprised by that - have to admit.
you: Lingo does have competitive "switch to them" offers.
Nichole: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
you: I was looking at your comparison chart - you are about same price as Lingo, but they include Western Europe in their free calling plan (which your comparison chart fails to include).
you: So the only thing I can see as potentially better, is that you include two phone lines versus one. Is it safe to say that this is your "advantage?"
Nichole: Correct, we are also offering a free year service when you sign up for one year
you: hmmm, ok, well that helps...
you: Can you verify that the "two lines" you offer are complete lines? I mean, I'll get two phone numbers and they can both be used at the same time — two simultaneous calls, correct?
Nichole: That is correct, but it is only one solid phone number
you: don't understand. Sorry. Can you elaborate?
Nichole: One moment
Nichole: Sorry about the wait, it would work exactly how you said. If you were using the phone and some one called it would ring on the other phones. They could pick it up with out interrupting in your first phone call. Or they could dial out
you: so, it is just like having two complete in/outblund phone lines, but you are only providing one phone number? Is there a way to request a separate phone number? For example if I wanted to use the second line for a fax.
Nichole: You could use the second line for fax any way, with the same number
you: what if I want a second number? I really don't want to answer the phone and get a fax tone in my ear - would you?
Nichole: You could purchase a dedicated line for 9.95/month
you: Wow, that is expensive... Too bad. That prices you out of the game.
you: Concerning bandwitdh, and leaving the dedicated line (extra charge) out for now, from a technical/bandwidth perspective, if I am on two lines at once, does that use twice the bandwidth -or- does it cut each call's bandwidth in half?
you: Also, do you offer any tools (like Lingo) that llow me to change the bandwidth usage configuration of the VoIP box? e.g. can I tell the VoIP box to use 56k per line/call instead of the default 8k or 16k of bandwidth?
Nichole: The two line feature wont affect your bandwidth.
Nichole: Im not sure if we offer tools to change bandwidth, allow me one minute to ask one of our techs
you: I want it to. If I am on two calls, I want it to use twice the bandwidth - I don't want to calls to degrade.
Nichole: I assure you you wont have any quality problems
Nichole: We don't offer tools to reduce or change the bandwidth, its always at minimal usage
you: I've been in technolgy/software for the last 25 years. It is common sense that if you take 8k of bandwidth and divide it by two call paths, that equals 4k per call. That means degredation - simple math in my book. (not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand — and not only for myself)
Nichole: One moment
you: Can't change the bandwidth? Voice is too important to me to not be able to up the bandwidth to get the best quality conversations. I fear that this is "strike two" (the first strike is the lack of a phone number for the second line which prevents me from using it for a fax).
you: After all, the web browsing can always slow down if I am on a voice call. :)
Nichole: We dont have any quality issues with our phones. I assure you I use it and the quality is precise.
you: I understand your response, however, I've been in the biz too long to not discuss this technically. And the last two reviews of your service here don't echo your statement http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/ViaTalk
you: Thus, is there any way I could speak to a technical person? (again, no disrespect - but have to conclude this soon).
Nichole: The tech departments number is 1-866-626-7150 option #2
you: ok, I will call.
you: Last question for you. If I already have a Linksys VoIP box, can I use it and save $$$ off my activation charge / account setup fees? After all, that is that the activation charge does — it offsets your "free" equipment cost...
Nichole: If you have an unlocked adaptor you can use it with our service.
you: Hmmm, unlocked adapter? Sounds like the cellular business racket! How do I know if unlocked?
Nichole: You would have to check with the company that provided the adaptor
you: ok. Thank you for your assistance today. I will call tech support next.
Nichole: No problem, have a great day!
