Vonage Router

The Vonage router connects up to two Vonage phone lines using a high-speed cable or DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) Internet connections. As a result, customers can make phone calls on the web and save money on international calls.

What the Vonage Router Package Includes

The Vonage kit includes a Vonage-certified Linksys RT31P2 router with 2 phone ports and 3 switched Ethernet ports, as well as the following:

  • Power adapter
  • Network cable
  • Quick Installation card
  • Registration card
  • Setup CD with user's guide
  • Vonage phone plan and support information

Users will need to provide the high-speed Internet connection (cable or DSL) and a touch tone phone. Linksys provides a 3-year warranty for the Vonage router.

The router allows connection for up to 3 computers and 2 telephones or fax machines. The Vonage router works with any touch tone phone, which can be corded or cordless.

All these telecommunication devices share one Internet connection in which the user can also share a printer, make backups, and do other personal computer activities.

The official name for the Vonage router is the Vonage Box, which is labeled as a VoIP phone adapter. The cost of the Vonage router is $79.99, but the Vonage phone service sometimes offers an instant rebate of the same amount.

Compatible Vonage Router Alternatives

If you do not want to purchase the Vonage router because of cost, there are many alternate Vonage routers because the Vonage router service is compatible with various kinds of phone equipment.

To find the best compatibility and technical support, obtain hardware from a discount VoIP service provider to decrease the chance of functionality problems.

The main concern in obtaining a compatible Vonage router is that the customer will use _a few specific VoIP protocols__, which the third-party Vonage router and Vonage also must use.

To check the compatibility of your current phone equipment, insert a conventional, corded phone into the telephone port of the Vonage phone adapter. But note that Vonage does not provide technical support for VoIP routers, phones or adapters they do not sell.

Cost of Compatible Vonage Routers

The cost of compatible Vonage routers vary from $20 to $200, depending on the features a user wants to include. If it is a used version, a compatible Vonage router can cost at least $4 on Amazon.

For example, there is a used compatible Vonage router on Amazon called Cisco-Linksys WRT54GP2 Wireless-G Broadband Router that costs $24.99 (4/19/12). This Vonage router includes a 4-port switch and two standard phone jacks.

  • Caller ID
