For the money I like it...Magic Jack

The Good:

On the renewal at the end of the first year I paid for the 5 year thing. Each year i have to send MJ $10 to keep my phone number. So $30 per year is a STEAL for phone service!

The Bad:

The caller ID, when it works, only displays the number, no name. Even for the people who are stored in the phone. The sound quality is not very good. My hearing is not what it used to be so i use ear buds when using the MJ phone. The ear buds are not needed when using my cell phones.

I would recommend the Magic Jack Plus to friends and make them aware that it is a very inexpensive phone service. The caller ID thing working from time to time with only the number displayed is a bit annoying. Caller ID names do not appear. This could be the third-party caller ID provider as MJ does not provide this service. There are a lot of comments on the Internet concerning the dysfunctional caller ID so I suspect their product has something to do with the problem. If Magic Jack would just fix the poor sound quality and the caller ID issue this product would be as close to perfect as the POTS phones (Plain Old Telephone Service), a.k.a. landline phones. With the money I save by using Magic Jack Plus I am OK with it.

Huge Savings with Magic Jack plus

The Good:

Huge savings. Can use all my phones throughout the house and garage. I save over $300 a year and I was able to keep my old number. Can take it with me where ever I am and plug in and get my calls or use the ipad app.

The Bad:

No call fwd. but I do have the ipad app so can answer and make phone calls from my ipad. Do have to use area code with each call dialed and every once in Awhile will drop a call, but easy to just call back. The savings are worth these few cons.

i have never had to call customer service. It was easy to install and I was able to keep my old phone number. I have excellent phones so reception is excellent.

The Bad:

Terrible customer service, they took away the call forward feature and would not refund my money. I signed up and paid for the purpose of using it to call forward a business number. Then the next week call forward did not work. Tried to get a refund and they refused..

No Customer Service

The Good:

The Bad:

no toll free number - just CHATS

Chatting with the customer service representatives is a waste. They don't know the answers or can't make a decision but refers everything to the Review Department who hasn't responded to my question/concerns for the past 16 plus days. The founder of Magic Jack may be a smart person but doesn't know _ _ _ _ about customer service or taking care of customers. Why is that a tech company such as these doesn't know how to work with the customers. It wouldn't surprise me if the company is jockeying itself to be sold to a highest bidder....

No Customer Service

The Good:

No Customer Service

The Bad:

Was on the "Chat" for 3 hours with no resolution. This company does not have a 1800 toll free number, so they don't accept calls. Furthermore, Customer Service Department has one "Supervisor" who wouldn't allow me to talk to anyone else.

When you have a problem with a Magic Jack, my first thought is Good Luck! Been on the "Chat" for the past 3 hours without resolving anything. Only response I get is, "Your problem has been sent to the Review Department." When asked when the Review Department will let me know, the answer I get is "quickly as possible." It's been over 16 days since the last "Chat" and no Review Department rep. has contacted me. This happened when I was in Afghanistan and unfortunately Magic Jack was the only means of contacting my family. Since the "Review Department" hadn't contacted me (am still waiting) I had to wait until I could get to a different phone system. Thank God we weren't attack.... When asked again via a "Chat" today, the response I get was the same: "The Review Department will get back to you." So I asked to be in contact with this Department, but was told there isn't anyone who can "Chat" with me or take my phone calls. Oh, did I tell you Magic jack does not have a 1 800 toll free number. So I asked the customer service rep if I can talk to his supervisor. He tells me he is the supervisor but has no other supervisor I can "Chat" with. He was nice enough to give me his CEO name, who I think is a smart guy but doesn't know _ _ _ _ about customer service. Maybe, he should attend an MBA school or a charm school to learn about customer service. His staff can't resolve anything or can't make any decisions. I've just wasted three hours "Chatting..." My recommendation is to choose a company that offer a toll free number so that you can talk to a person, unless you like "Chatting." Furthermore, having a customer service reps that can make some decisions instead of passing the buck to a higher being (Review Department). I highly doubt if this "Review Department" is real....

Defective MagicJack Adapter and Customer Service

Posted:
Sound Quality Reliability Features Customer Service Price Overall User Rating
The Good:

The Bad:

Cannot speak to anyone in Customer Service regarding technical issues with their product; only online chats. My first online chat regarding my defective adapter was with a very rude manager who said since I hadn't answered (after 3 seconds) he was ending the chat.

This is the 2nd adapter that's gone defective since I bought it in January. Running very hot. They're trying to say it's because it's plugged into a surge protector. Have had MagicJack for 3 years; just got the Plus in January and the adapter for it is a piece of junk. They want me to pay for shipping a new one and being without a phone for 3-5 days, after they receive my defective one back (so more like 10 days). Told them I had a medical condition and couldn't be withoug my phone but evidently that doesn't matter to them.

The Good:

The Bad:

Just signed up to MajicJack today and paid for a Canadian number. I realized that the number I chose was not suitable and called them within the hour. They said I could change it -but cost $20 My impression is this company is just out to get every dollar they can from you. Phone quality not the best as hear a bit of distortion in the background

Magic Jack What a waste of time and money.

The Good:

Worked nice when I got it

The Bad:

Paid $90.00 for the first year, then it was only supposed to be $19.95 every year after. I ended up moving shortly after buying the magic jack plus and mis placed the device for a few months. When I found it I should have had about five more months of time left. Well they said they never received my payment back in December. And I would have had to pay another $80.00. My bank faxed them my statement that I was charged and magic jack told me it was all cleared up back in December. Now im trying to use it after finding it after my move Five months later and they again said i have an unpaid Balance of $80.00. Fraud

There are more and better service providers like magic jack out there and cheaper with great customer service. I would check the others out before dealing with Magic Jack. What a waste of time and money.

Magic Jack plus... Magic Crap!!!!

The Good:

You can buy in just about store... that's it

The Bad:

Does't work well at all....all a tv sales pitch

I could not get my Magic Jack Plus to work at all.... It kept dropping calls after 35 seconds and if you have issues you have to web chat with technical support... no phone support. I am pretty good with computers and had to go in and change setting in my wireless router...If this would have been my wife or mom they would not have been able to complete these steps. After two days of dropped calls and numerous web chats with no solution to my issues... I finally got fed up and took mine back for a refund... Would not recommend this product to anyone.

No customer service over the phone, too long to port home phone#,

The Good:

Cheap

The Bad:

1. No customer service over the phone provided 2. It takes up to 10 business days to port your home phone # to Magic Jack. Meanwhile you can't get any incoming calls to your phone call either. So you out of reach for up to 10 business days from any of your contacts who is trying to call your home phone # 3. You have to register your physical home address on Magic Jack's website in order to use 911 service. I found out about it just purely by chance. If you don't do it, you won't be able to call 911 in case of emergency from Magic Jack. That really sucks!!! Imagine someone has a heart attack and can't get an ambulance because of that

This company steals!!

I just tried to disconnect my Magic Jack service after having them for a number of years. I had prepaid for the next 2 years. I recently got a cell phone plan that covers my house with 4glte service and so I decided to cancel my Magic Jack. There is no refunding of my money from where I prepaid. I lost all of that money!! I'm so angry because I'm careful with my money and saw no sense in paying for something I did not need any longer. Do NOT use this company unless you have money to throw away!

Beware of MagicJack's 911 Service

Posted:
Sound Quality Reliability Features Customer Service Price Overall User Rating

we already know that MagicJack does not offer e911 service. They only offer 911 service, but I won a lengthy credit card dispute with MasterCard international with the help of a written letter supporting my claims from VOIP.MS (My current provider) Months after activating my magicJack account, my home address was still in Yellow (Pending verification) After several attempts to rectify this situation with online chat service it never was resolved! I called MagicJack's 911 service several times and in each instance the person replying states that they do not hear me well....hang up and then call me back precious minutes later and then starts asking me questions to relay my call to the nearest 911 service center in my region! They are in breach of their own 911 service agreement. In no instance should a 911 service hang up and then call you back! So precious minutes go buy even before you call is relayed to the appropriate 911 station in your location. IF direct 911 is important to you (this is called e911)do yourself a favor and choose another voip provider! With Voip.MS I pay $0.99 for my line $1.50 for my e911 and 1 cent/minute in North America for premium quality or 1/2 cent for regular quality! Yes this might cost you more yearly but do you really want to trust magicjack's 911 service!

Crap product crap company crap policies

This is certainly the cheapest VoIP option, and you definitely get what you pay for. Any customer service issues are handled by some poor call center worker somewhere that doesn't speak English (not their fault) who won't be able to fix the problem. My main issue with the MagicJack as well as the MagicJack+ is, if left plugged in, due to some product defect, the phone line stops working and when people try to call you at this number, it kicks them straight to voicemail. This is frustrating when waiting for a call. Once you actually call somebody, it sounds like a robot and is very choppy especially so if there are computers connected to the WiFi using bandwidth. As nice as it is to use a regular (read non-cellular) phone, the overall experience outweighs the positive experience of the price and the fact that you aren't using a cell phone. Unfortunately, I bought this product in February of this year and after having the power source replaced (at the suggestion of one of the genius "help" associates at MagicJack.com) the piece of junk still doesn't work. Surely there are better VoIP options albeit slightly pricier. This company is crap. My MagicJack is in the trash, since they don't take returns after 30 days.

The shittiest service I have ever experienced! My relatives sent me a MagicJack PLUS from Canada. At first, it was perfect. Within a month there were connectivity issues and everyday there was a different error code. I tried everything, but in vain. Their live chat respondents would stop responding every time saying "Let me transfer you to a senior agent", after suggesting the same troubleshooting procedure (unplug and plug again after 20 seconds, try plugging it into your PC instead of wall socket etc..) I sent it back via courier and there it started working magically after two days. My relatives shipped it all the way back to me here in Pakistan and it worked as if there was no issue everr! Suddenly a month before my subscription was about to expire, it started to had issues again and till date I'm unable to make any calls from it. The man with a grumpy voice tells me that there's some system error, please try again later. I tried to chat and they said my device has issues, and it's fried! They told me that I need to get it replaced and shipping will cost me 15.04 Canadian Dollars. I would rather prefer VoIP apps available free of cost. They are far too better than this shitty paid service!

Constant Dropped Calls!!!

If you're just a casual phone user for personal use, then it's worth it. If your calls are imperative, then forget it! I consistently get my calls dropped 4 to 5 times an hour! I have 50Mbps FIOS Internet and the MJ is plugged directly into my Cisco router.

Magic Jack charges extra $10/yr for ported number

Posted:

Magic Jack charges extra $10/yr for ported number There is a "hidden cost" for the Magic Jack service if you port your number. Magic Jack charges an addition $10 per year if you port your number, on top of the standard charges. Take the extra charges into consideration for long term costs budgeting.

Had a MJ original 5 years. Upgraded to the +...Simple install. Works perfectly as the old one did! No PC to leave on anymore, just plug it in the router and wall outlet and you are got a dial tone again! I give it 5 stars! < Jeff >
