ALERT ClearlyIP Down

ClearlyIP is having a severe trunking outage, been ongoing for the past 5.5 hours. Interestingly inbound calls work, but all outbound calls fail. Can't reach them over the phone and parts of their web-page won't load. Their status page (status.clearlyip.com) says "US-Central Datacenter Connectivity Issue".

Super bad for businesses that have Sunday hours.

Anyone privy to details about the outage?

What are others doing out there to try to insulate against this sort of problem where a trunking provider goes down?

I have multiple outbound carriers but if inbound goes, not much that can be done unless you can quickly port out to another carrier.

ClearlyIP has a built-in feature for this. Their SIP Trunking platform provides a Number Failover setting that will automatically route incoming calls to a backup cell number or landline.
How to Configure It:

1. Log in to the ClearlyIP Portal (trunking.clearlyip.com).
2. Navigate to Products and Services > Phone Numbers.
3. Click the View/Edit (binoculars) icon next to the specific phone number.
4. Under Number Failover, click the edit icon.
5. Select DID and enter your backup cell number.
6. Set the trigger to Unreachable or Immediate and click Save.

This feature is for *your failover* as in your SIP trunk is down. Forwarding from their switch will be hard if their switch is what is down or they are having higher level routing issues.

Many VOIP providers offer fail-over numbers or backup routes to your PBX for incoming calls. However, if the vendor's switch is down or the connections to their systems are down, it doesn't help.
