Good afternoon,

Raspberry Pi IncrediblePBX2027D

I am noticing a strange beeping kind of progress tone from my softphone app when i try to dial out.

Can't describe the noise it is like very close together beeps before a call tries to establish then it stops when the call is connected and the call is fine.

Any pointers how to troubleshoot this?

You need to do a trace while making such a call
Log into the Linux CLI as root then
Bash:
tail -f /var/log/asterisk/full
That will give you a live view of the asterisk log file, then you should be able to see what is going on under the hood.

Another way is to run (while making the call)
Code:
asterisk -rvvvv
which is the asterisk CLI where you can also use asterisk commands directly - for help use
Code:
core show help

There options for verbosity vvvvv up to 9 'v's, and for setting sip debug etc.

Use
Bash:
sngrep
the packet sniffer programme to read the packages and sip messages being sent / received over the network.

What model of Raspberry Pi do you have?
Is the sound coming from the Raspberry Pi device itself or from a speaker/headphone/HDMI connected Monitor?
If its from the Raspberry Pi device body, or maybe even from the attached power supply adapter, chances are that it's a power issue.
If the sound is coming through the audio channel (any one, analog, HDMI, USB attached headphones, etc), is the volume of that weird sound controllable with the audio settings?
What's your softphone app? Where is it being executed? On the Raspberry Pi itself? Smartphone?

It is the Raspberry Pi 4B
It is not a power issue the tone is coming from the mobilephone earpiece not the PSU or the Pi.
The app is the Acrobits Groundwire being executed locally on the Pi as an extension.

So when i dial out before the call gets connected it is beeping quickly within the earpiece then the call gets through.

Doing exactly the same thing on a FreePBX distro, same parameters, it is nice and quiet and the call gets through.

Tracing the call doesn't show anything out of the ordinary while comparing them.

But you don't mention anything about what is happening in the PBX on the trace when the noise is heard. Have you thought about opening a ticket with acrobits as it could just be another app or some fault or something to do with android whatever in the phone.
Just a guess that nobody can troubleshoot without the information.

Try the same recipe on an actual IP phone, an ATA, another softphone on your PC, divert the call to PSTN even.

In the actual app there is an option that says TRYING BEEPS and it was on.
Disabling it stopped the beeping.

So simple but it is weird that it was doing it on the Raspberry account and not on a distro setup with the option ON.

Thanks
