QUESTION Voicemail Alert for Virtual Extension

We have used 'general' voicemail targets in the past, .. and the recording seems to work fine with a virtual extension, .. unfortunately I don't see how to flash the alerts when a virtual extension has voicemail (on some or all extensions)?

Appreciate any suggestions!

I'm using this from @lgaetz on asterisk 11.10.0 freepbx 2.11.
Works great with virtual extensions.
the blf is green no message
red with message
pressing the button will ask for password

islandtech's answer seems very good if you have phones with BLF buttons available.

If you just want a message waiting indicator to appear on phones that don't currently have voicemail service, to alert the phone about messages in the virtual mailbox, that's easily done. Edit the extension and find the "Mailbox" field. If your virtual mailbox extension is 1000 then enter "1000@device" in the field and save it. Now that extension will get message waiting indicators for mailbox 1000.
