A line can be allowed to answer a call in non supervise mode in which the PBX does not signal the Public Switched Telephone Network that the call was answered. Since this could be used to perpetrate toll fraud, its use is generally restricted to an error line, such as an announcement that the person dialed a non-working extension, and possibly giving the caller a main operator or automated attendant number to call instead. Many long distance companies will not allow the caller’s voice path to connect unless supervision is given on a call.
