Interoute, Europe’s largest next generation network owner operator, today announced that Telekom Srbija has signed an agreement for 100Gb of Ethernet bandwidth to be delivered through Interoute’s Ethernet Clear service. As part of the agreement, Telekom Srbija will also link to Interoute’s points of presence (PoP) in London, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Frankfurt, Prague, Budapest, Timisoara and New York.

The agreement is designed to give Telekom Srbija a much wider footprint across Western and Central Europe, as the demand for broadband internet access and Multimedia services continues to grow across Europe, with broadband subscriptions now exceeding 77 million.

The Interoute Ethernet Clear service is an ideal lower cost solution for operators who want access to multiple points of presence. Through the service, Telekom Srbija will also have access to Interoute Hub, a customer web portal on which billing information can be viewed and trouble tickets can be logged and tracked online.

Zoran PeroviÃ, International Division Chief Officer at Telekom Srbija said, “Because of our geographic location in south east Europe it was vital for us to secure a relationship with a network owner with coverage across the whole of Europe. Interoute is one of the best next generation fibre optic network providers. The relationship has allowed us to fulfill a significant part our 100Gb Ethernet bandwidth criteria in a cost effective way. Interoute is a major provider of capacity from its Next Generation Pan-European Network and we are pleased to be working with them.”

Matthew Finnie, Interoute CTO said, “Ethernet is set to be the dominant connectivity technology that has the strength and flexibility to be the long haul access technology of choice. We are increasingly seeing Ethernet requests based on its lower total cost of ownership and open standards approach. For customers reviewing their bandwidth needs, Ethernet is the obvious replacement.”

This deal follows hard on the heels of several agreements that Interoute has secured with operators across central and Eastern Europe, the last being with Russian operator Rostelcom last month. Finnie concludes, “The high reliability and capacity connections of our Ethernet service is a strong proposition for emerging operators who are establishing themselves on the global stage.”
