voipcheap.co.uk

Website: voipcheap.co.uk

This service is run by Finarea SA like VoipBuster and NetAppel but they have targetted it to attract UK custommers and thus they have different FREE countries (mainly around Europe, Australia, New Zealand and United States) you can call with their application, I have not tested this service as to use it with asterisk, but I think they’ll suffer from the problems that have been commented for NetAppel.

Now they are also offering dial-in (voip-in) numbers to some of the accounts so that you can get calls from regular phone lines into your voip line.

You can configure VoipCheap to work with SIP using the same parameters as in VoipBuster:
Domain/realm: sip1.voipbuter.com
SIP Proxy: sip1.voipbuter.com

use your voipcheap’s username and password

I tried to call my cellphone and it worked. I also have VoipCheap’s VOIP-IN number, so I tried to call it from my cell. It also works fine.

Comments from testers or editions to the entry are welcome.

It is expensive for the user to receive calls to the voipcheap number and until recently not many phones have been compatible with the service.

For voipcheap.com you can configure your sip peer as this:

[voipcheap]
type=peer
username=voipcheap_username
fromuser=voipcheap_username
fromdomain=sip.voipcheap.com
realm=sip.voipcheap.com
secret=voipcheap_password
host=sip.voipcheap.com
canreinvite=no
qualify=no
disallow=all
allow=g729

Cheers,
Frederic Jean

I had to do the following

in sip.conf

register => username:[email protected]/44nnnnnnnnnnn

;Notes: only needed to register your ip address and if you have an inbound number, thus the 44 (uk country code +nnnnnnn are your number from voipcheap.

[voipcheap]
type=friend
username=xxxxxxxxxx
fromuser=xxxxxxxxxx
fromdomain=sip.voipcheap.co.uk
realm=sip.voipcheap.co.uk
secret=yyyyyyyyyyyyy
host=sip.voipcheap.co.uk
canreinvite=no
qualify=no
context=from-voipcheap
insecure=port,invite

Notes: Check the syntax for the insecure line it differs from 1.2 1.4 to 1.6 asterisk

To dial out

You give the international number example: 44756123456789 so in the dial command it would be:

exten => s,n,Dial(SIP/voipcheap/44${NUM:1},180,T)

where NUM would be 07123456789 and would end up 447123456789 etc

incoming calls are sent to the “default” dialplan, and you see the extension number as the international number, example:

exten => _440123456789,1,Set(CALLERID(num)=0${CALLERID(num):4})
exten => _440123456789,n,Dial(${DB(CID/GRP_PHONES${DB(CID/phones)})},60,rt)

Notes: the extension number is as given to you by voipcheap, the Set line in the dialplan changes the number displayed to the users for incoming caller id to the conventional UK style. Voipcheap sends the full international caller ID:

they send 0044123456789 and this is changed to 0123456789 for the users.

I hope this helps
Derek
