Xymon (previously known as Hobbit) is based on the Big Brother Network monitor and is backwards-compatible with it.
Website: http://xymon.sourceforge.net/ and http://sourceforge.net/projects/xymon/
Adding a new test to Xymon is fairly easy and the ability to have the remote systems send their status back to a central monitoring server can be useful if the remote system is behind a firewall and there is no direct SNMP access to it. It is also highly customizable, with the ability to make custom tests to test anything you can imagine. There are add-ons available to test SIP and IAX2 on Xymonton.
As of November 8, 2008, the project name changed from Hobbit to Xymon.
