My cellphone extension is so flakey that I can't count on it whatsoever (I'm using an old version of PIAF on a raspi 2 with Zoiper on Android).
And now I need to set up an extension on an iPhone as well.
Does anyone know of a service provider that has a solution that makes cell extensions easier and safer?
Or can someone confirm that using a VPN tunnel makes things much more stable and secure?
If I go the VPN route I'll need to find a some very clear tutorials about how to set things up (for raspi, Android and iOS).
Or better, I can pay someone out there to help me out?
Many thanks!

I've used Zoiper on an iPhone through a VPN tunnel but I only establish the tunnel when I need to make a call.
VPNs will be problematic due to the IP address of the phone changing as you move around.

Other than that I would defer to other with more experience.

i just use voip.ms i was sick of the maintenance of up keep with PBX and just use the basic Free PBX you get with voip.ms services which is all built into the voip control panel no 3rd party install or setup all part of the voip account. i just create a call forward then a ring group and have it send the calls to my phone direct and only use zoiper to place outbound calls.
- you can also use voip.ms and zoiper to encrypted calls using STRP

If I was having the problems you are, I would update and use current software. I run IPBX2021 Also I would look at trying others besides Zopier, although not all are free, but sometimes spending a little money is worth fewer headaches. You might also look at Ward's nervittles.com and his wiki which the link is posted on nerdvittles.com. There are a ton of tutorials and a lot of information. You may even find something that will work better for you..

I have found that setting up 3cx just for extensions was worth the time and effort. 3cx mobile clients are the best in my experience if you have a spare machine to set it up on. Once I installed incredible pbx 2020 public, I started using Groundwire as my cell phone extension and it works great. Costs around 10 but works well.

My family and I are all on Android and Zoiper works perfectly fine configured with IAX2 extensions. SIP, not so much.

If you want easy, the easiest thing I've used is Clearly Anywhere with IPBX2021 Public. I tell the employee to download the Clearly Anywhere app, then I just have the IPBX2021 send an email to the employee. The email contains a link, that when clicked, configures the extension on the app. Clearly Anywhere is based on Groundwire (which is superior to Zoiper, IMO, because it uses a fraction of the battery of Zoiper).

Before I had lots of complaints with port knockers, vpn, Zoiper, etc. I have 15 users on Clearly Anywhere right now, and haven't had a single complaint in the past year.

Call quality is like other apps, and largely dependent on your data connection. To get something that doesn't rely on the data connection, you would use the system that Knerd linked to.

We use bria and voip.ms. separate account. Make the callerid match the main account and it works. Wave or zopier won't work with iphone

If you are looking for the easiest and safest softphone solution, I suggest you try Ringotel (I'm a co-founder). It not only provides modern mobile and desktop apps that sync calls, messages, and recordings across user's devices, but it also works as a secure VoIP tunnel that encrypts communication from/to the remote users and forwards calls to your PBX server from a single IP address. As a result, no VPN is needed on the client devices, while only one IP address should be whitelisted on the Firewall.

As a bonus, Ringotel has an integrated cloud provisioning platform for painless deployment and management of softphones for remote employees.

Here's a quick video overview I've made so you could have a better understanding of the Ringotel solution and how it works:

Hope you find it helpful.

What makes your product worth twice the price of a fully functional softphone that already integrates fully such as Clearly Anywhere?
