From previous ventures and non-starts I have a few DIDs that end in 00 and a few matching toll-free and local including a 212/844. I've had a few of them unused for over ten years.

They have to be worth something to the right people. Is there a place to sell them?

How do sales like that go, use a general escrow while the port goes though?

Have you tried NumberBarn ?

Just to clarify, double 0's does not make it a vanity number.

I guess that depends on your company name. I think it would be safe to call it a "premium" number

I have a number that is NNN-0000 which I thought was a great buy. I told a non-technical person about it and she said "that sounds fake." She's probably right. So "premium" is a middle ground between ordinary and fake-looking. Maybe something like NPA-NXX-1000.

In Charleston, we have "ambulance chasers" that have scooped up 333-3333, 555-5555, 777-7777, and 999-9999. The all-nines guy lives next door to me. Still room for a few more. :sifone:

Yes, I've had clients ask me if there is a new offering to snatch them up one of those numbers. I imagine they are BIG money, and if I were to get one, I don't think I would even give it to my best client, but instead would LEASE it to them.

I did see a marijuana dispensary filter at number barn.

Almost 5,000 numbers in an exchange in my town have been gobbled up and are for sale on that site. In particular, they got the whole range in the 8000-8999 range and punched holes in the rest of the ranges in that exchange. They ruined it so you can't get a contiguous block of 20 numbers.

I know the local carrier Frontier just had to release a block of numbers they were not using. How long can these number hoarders hold numbers without assigning them in service?

I think you'll find that some numbers on other carriers are actually listed there. I am pretty sure I've found numbers from broadcom on there ?? Check a number on the site and then cross reference to find the carrier and see what you can find. But Yes, I've used it before to cherry pick a number for a client.

That's interesting. Explains their 69,000,000 number inventory.

Yeah. The numbers getting gobbled up are from Bandwidth.com. Now if you want a contiguous block of DID's, you'd have to pay these shysters to get a whole block. Our calling area has 16 exchanges, our town has 6 exchanges and the numbers for sale on Numberbarn equate to a large percentage of available numbers. Something isn't right.

... they don't list a phone number of their own and their mailing address is a PO box. Almost like they're expecting torches and pitchforks.

Years ago, here in Oz we had six and seven digit local numbers and a 9 digit FNN. We had a realtor who chose 31-1111 as his phone number. He thought he had a premium number but it didn't work out too well. He kept complaining about getting phantom and wrong number calls. This was in the days of rotary phones and it turned out little kids were playing with the family phone and calling his number!

After browsing their site a little more, I see that some of the listings are tagged with "exclusive."

In the sample area code I querried I selected to show 300 listings per page resulting in 8 pages.
The exclusive listings were only on the first page and only about a third of that.

Oops - I misspoke - I meant Bandwidth
