I have a server running asterisk 18 incredible pbx 15 with a Debian install of incredible pbx 2021.
I am not able to to send or receive any calls with G729. This system is in a low bandwidth area and I need to try and get this working.
Calls do work if I remove the g729 from the trunks and use ulaw. any thoughts as to why g729 wont work here? I believe it comes built into the new installs and i shouldn't have to install anything extra to make this work.?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

If you see it in /usr/lib64/asterisk/modules, it should be on your system. Be sure you activated it on the Settings>Asterisk SIP Settings codec section. The use of g729 does add a whole lot of processor overhead on your system.

I have the same issue, Unable to find a codec translation path: g729 -> ulaw and vice versa but with this added. System is running *20, FPBX16 with IPBX2027-D:

Isn't this codec free now since the patent fell off a few years ago??

True, but they could if they wanted to.
Yes, I suppose they could. And you could give me $20 if you wanted to. And I could block your vapid comments if I wanted to, but actually I can't because the forum doesn't seem to let me.

edit: nevermind, I found the ignore button.

Been using this when needed since the patent expired

I've tried to use it myself but I had lots of issues during compilation. In the end I've used the open source g729 codec from here http://asterisk.hosting.lv/
which itself uses the bcg729 library. They don't have a g729 compiled for Asterisk 20 but I'm using the Asterisk 18 version which works perfectly fine.
