They always stay in contact with the GDMS system once you set them up with it. Now Fanvil phones are much more troubling than Grandstream. My recollection is these new phones also "phone home" if that matters to you.
Why is that? They always stay in contact with the GDMS system once you set them up with it. Now Fanvil phones are much more troubling than Grandstream.
So that the GDMS cloud manager can reach the devices for firmware updates, provisioning, etc.Why is that?
I won't make any specific claims but if you monitor a Fanvil phone's IP traffic to China, it will surprise you.Ooops. I was referring to Fanvil

I have yet to see that happen with any of the Yealink's I deploy. I just logged my own T46U for 90 minutes which resulted in the only TCP requests being to my provisioning server. NTP requests only hitting IPs for us.pool.ntp.org. DNS requests going to the DNS servers it was assigned and all the SIP requests going to the proper servers. I've run longer captures in the past and I've yet to see this.Yealinks phone home about 1x hour
I think you might be right the chinese IP's could be NTP servers.I have yet to see that happen with any of the Yealink's I deploy. Yealinks do, however, come with NTP servers configured to cn.pool.ntp.org which is the China NTP server pool so if that is left untouched there will be UDP requests over port 123 to various China IPs every 15 minutes or so.
Mine are all pointed to pool.ntp.org but I haven't looked at traffic in a while. If China wants to hear my conversations, they'll be really bored.I think you might be right the chinese IP's could be NTP servers.
Is that free to use?But not the newer Enterprise series GRP phones the last time I checked.
@cantVOIP The easiest way to deal with Grandstream devices is to use the free Grandstream cloud provisioning system for Grandstream devices. You can find it at https://www.gdms.cloud/login. You can define the SIP accounts the phones register with and you can do on-the-fly configuration changes. Its a lot easier than messing with the OSS Endpoint manager.
