It's been so long ...
I used Clonezilla to move my IncrediblePBX to Proxmox. I'm not getting an IP, and I realize that my physical machine didn't use eth0 for the ethernet.

Where and what do I change on the Proxmox'd machine to get the virtual network card working?

The Dell machine used enp0s25 as the 'eth0' and there is a ifcfg-enp0s25 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts

Proxmox has in networking a 'Bridge' setting of vmbr0 - not sure what this is. Do I change this to enp0s25?

Help?

Sorry, I can’t be of much more help as I’m not a Proxmox user.
You could try changing the bridge setting to enp0s25. After that I’m out of ideas.

f you clone a system then there might be a file /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules which contains mappings between names and hardware devices but as you cloned, you don't want that persistance , mostly deleteing that file (or knowledgeably editing it) and rebooting will 'normalise' names of your devices

Hi Andrew,

Don't change the vmbr0 to anything else. This vmbr[x] is a like a virtual switch. Proxmox uses it to be able to share one internet connection between multiple vms. What you have to do is enter your guest vm and simply modify the IP from the interface there (be it enp0s[x] or ethx ecc

Follow @dicko and simply delete /etc/udev/rules.d/70*. Also look in /var/lib/dhcp and delete any files you find there. Then reboot and everything should come up fine.

ip addr now returns (and I'm typing this since I can't install qemu agent yet)

1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc unqueue state UNKNOWN group default qlen 1000
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
inet 127.0.0.1/8 scope host lo
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
inet6 ::1/128 scop host
valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
2: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN group default qlen 1000
link/ether <the MAC address> brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

I didn't have a /var/lib/dhcp; I have a /var/lib/dhclient

To move forward, Servers in general should not be relying on DHCP, you can set lots of things with the "network manager text user interface" (if you are using networkmanager)

nmtui

but if your state is "DOWN" as you post that is a problem between proxmox and the machine missing the virtual physical connection.

A really long time ago when I did a P2V migration I had to issue the ifup command (CentOS) for some reason on the interface the first time manually as well.

Sorry to revive my own thread, but having problems after trying to use the VM from Clonezilla.
I followed the advice above and also created a file /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 containing:
ONBOOT="yes"
NM_CONTROLLED="no"

machine still boots without network (127.0.0.1)

if I run sudo dhclient -v I get the assigned IP address.

given this info, what do I need to do to the base system to make this a permanent fix?

I think you need BOOTPROTO="dhcp" maybe in there too. Or something like that. It's been a long time since I had to fool around any of that.

Whitelist the assigned IP address in your router.
