SOLVED: Help- Is firewall blocking me.

I'm setting up a new system Pure PIAF. I have been trying to copy some files over to the server via SCP. I keep getting a connection abandoned error. So I try to do the same thing on another box that i have her and it works.

I'm using the root user and password and am trying to copy some files to the /tmp directory. The only difference in the two machines is one is on 192.168.100.0 subnet and the other is on 192.168.20.0 subnet. My laptop is also on the 192.168.20.0. Is this a firewall issue?

From what I can see, it's not a firewall issue. You cannot cross subnets on private networks. You can however give you laptop a second IP address "192.168.100.XXX" and you can then access the second server.

An easier solution for managing multiple boxes is Hamachi. It is much more secure and you can access the computer from anywhere. Setup time is 10 mins. max for the first box. 3-5 mins for the second. Give it a try, you'll be glad you did.

Ward has a script somewhere on the forum that makes it easy for you.

Hi Robin, actually you can cross subnets if your router/switch is configured correctly. Such as mine is. I think there is somthing broken or missed configured. Just cant figure out what it is.

Yes you can, and I should have qualified that. Ordinarily you cannot but a second IP is still the easiest way. Thanks for correcting me.

I know there are other ways to do what I want, but this is really starting to bug me.

SSH works via webmin, and Freepbx. I can send a file via SCP from my laptop to 3 different servers on different subnets all in my local network. This one machine will not accept a connection. It is like it is blocked or a file is corrupt.


I uninstalled OpenSSH and reinstalled along with the server portion, still no luck.

Any ideas??

Issue Solved :

Ok, I'm dumb.

No, really it was a key issue. The SCP program I was using stores the key passed in the registry and if it changes it's default was to close connection.

Since I'm working on a local net I changed the default to cache.

So, this had nothing to do with PIAF.

Now I can go home and when my son says how was your day I can say well I learned something new. That makes it a good day.

Do the firewall logs show anything? What happens if you turn off the iptables service on the PIAF box?
