Good afternoon
I'm trying to install PIAF. I downloaded pbxinaflash-17562.iso from sourceforge and started installing. When installation process reaches the point "Finished installing programms with yum" and "Now installing some more programs required by The Incredible PBX", installation freezes after installation program checking for setuptools.
Error is SEEK ERROR (on disk)
I repeated the installation using 5 different disks (4 IDE and 1 SATA) with the same results.
Two times (1 IDE and 1 SATA) I installed Elastix PBX v 2.04 beta with absolutely no problem. I ended up installing the software without no more problem.
I think that none of the disks is damaged but I can'tfind a reason why the process is freezing at the exact same spot in all five disks.
I really want to use PIAF because I read very good thing about it.
I'm anxious to be able to do that.

Thank you in advance for your help
Theodore

A seek error would indicate either a bad CD or perhaps an incompatible disk driver. You might also try downloading the software from another mirror site and then burn a new CD.

Thank you very much for your answer... The installation begun and completed from the CD... I presume that the drive is compatible... I'll download the CD again and try once more...

Thank you very much again

Downloaded ISO from mirror (google docs). Burned new CD, started installation... After reboot I left CD in tray, changed boot order and booted OK from HD... Software started downloading updates and when all yum updates finished process halted at the exact same spot as before... Downloading from http://peak.telecommunity.com/snapshots/setuptools-06c12dev_r88846-py2.4.egg
Process freeze for about 50 minutes and after that now displays INIT: version 2.86 reloading
Any other ideas?

Thank you very much
Theodore

This sounds more like a problem with your DNS or router. If it is freezing on a particular download. Of course all of the other distros do not download as needed during the install so that is perhaps why the other ones were working.

I see when you click the link you get error 404 yet I just finished a new install a few minutes ago with no errors of any kind.... interesting.

If you're using your ISP's DNS and you believe it isn't working correctly, you could drop to a shell after the OS installation and alter /etc/resolv.conf to use OpenDNS or Google's public DNS.

OpenDNS:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Google DNS:
8.8.8.8

I'm not sure what Google's other IP for public DNS is, however.

Once you make your changes, reboot and select the version you want to install.

Thank you very much for your answer... In my previous message I wrote the file which freezes the process. If you click on it you'll get a message object not found... If you go by hand in snapshots directory, you'll see the file is there... Any more thoughts?
Best Regards

Thank you very much... If my ISP's DNS was not working correctly I'd have more problems than this one... Or no? Installation made a bunch of updates before starting PBX in a Flash needed files installation... In my previous message, if you click on the (erroneous) file link you'll get a "Object not found" message... If you go by hand to the snapshots directory, you'll see the file is there... EDIT: Which installation of PBXIAF are you installing (Purple, Gold, Silver?)???

It appears to be a typo. Your link is:
http://peak.telecommunity.com/snapshots/setuptools-06c12dev_r88846-py2.4.egg

Hmmmm... can't find a way to disable as a link... It's this last bit in your link that's appears to be the problem:

setuptools-06c12dev_r88846-py2.4.egg

Browsing the snapshots directory at their website, the file name appears to actually be:

setuptools-0.6c12dev_r88846-py2.4.egg <- Note the decimal between 0 & 6.

I believe this is why it failing for you. I'm sure there's a work-around... just not sure what it is, yet. :)

I'm currently running through an install. If I encounter this problem, I'll see what I can come up with and add to this thread.

I'm sorry I forgot to reply this one... I tried PURPLE edition..

Thank you
Theodore

I ran through the PURPLE installation when I wrote the previous reply and did not encounter any errors.

The only other thing I can think of for you to try would be to try switching to another console when the installation hangs and try to download it manually using wget.

It's odd that it works for some of us.

OK... I'll try your idea tomorrow... I really want to use PIAF... Meantime, I installed 4 different Linux distros in the hard disk... Elastix, Ubuntu, Centos, Linux Mint... No one complaint about hd.... Everything went smoothly... Anyways... Another try tomorrow... Thank you again for your patience...

Is this a typo in the yum module or in our code? :confused5:

I wish I could answer that. :)

I ran through a PURPLE test install, yesterday, with no problems. Apparently, darmock/Tom didn't have an issue prior, either.

Based upon the OP's description of where it stops,
Software started downloading updates and when all yum updates finished process halted at the exact same spot as before...
it sounds like it must be a typo in the yum modules installation script.

I'm not sure what the OP would be doing any differently from the rest of us, however.

Good morning from Greece
I'll repeat the installation process today and write back the results. Maybe it was a mistake of me when I wrote the error message looking at the other screen (the one I was installing PIAF).
Could it be helpful if I tried installation on a VirtualBox machine just to see if the process ends normally without errors?

Thank you for your patience
Theodore

here is the portion of code that seems to be breaking your install

easy_install -U setuptools

This is a program we use but have not originated. Your error lies here. I suspect because this is a tool that is used to gain additional dependencies from outside your box via the internet. I have tried running the tool from all of the boxes I have access to (which include canada, us, uk, mexico, china, brazil) and it completes just fine. Also installs just fine under centos 6

It does try to find the closest mirror to your location so this could be the problem. Good old python! Beyond it being the problem however I have no solution for you. Also I can't see this as a widespread problem with the general users of PIAF or else we would have heard about it before now.

you could prior to running the install drop down to the cli and run the command and see what happens..

You also need to be more specific about your hardware. cpu motherboard ram hard drive memory This becomes especially relevant when installing purple as of late as some users have tried to install it on under powered machines.

good luck

You might be correct at this point because IIRC the process showed on screen the word "guessing" along with other stuff (I'm sorry but for testing purposes I made some other installations to that machine in order to test the hardware). I'll repeat the installation and take a photo of the error and messages.

you could prior to running the install drop down to the cli and run the command and see what happens..

I'll drop to cli and then what? Do I have to make a correction to resolv.conf or some other file? Do I have to edit the yum repositories? Can you point me to the correct path?

You also need to be more specific about your hardware. cpu motherboard ram hard drive memory This becomes especially relevant when installing purple as of late as some users have tried to install it on under powered machines.

I have a P4i65G motherboard with a P4 CPU at 2.8GHz, 2x1GB DDR Ram at 133MHz, a (cheap) HFC FXO card and a SATA 164GB HDD.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and for your answer of course...

this has nothing to do with yum. This is a python script.

prior to installation of the actual pbx you could drop to the cli and run the
easy_install -U setuptools

command and see what happens

I am guessing you are confused so here is how to do it

1. place the cd into your machine and reboot

2. after you have selected your keyboard/timezone and entered the password for root let the install continue

3. eventually the operating system will be installed and the system will reboot. Ensure you take out the CD during this sequence

4. After the system reboots you will be presented with our legal agreement Choose NO and you will drop to the console

5. log into the console as root using the password you entered initially

6. type exactly

easy_install -U setuptools

then tap the ENTER key

either it will install or it wont. If not then it is beyond our control and you will need to contact the author of these scripts. If it installs with no errors then

7. type reboot then tap the ENTER key

8. You will then see the legal agreement screen again accept it and then choose purple from the next screen.

9. see what happens.

Again it is something unique to your place in the internet I am afraid. I tried a couple of other machines I have access to in various european countries and had no problems running this command either in or out of the install program.
