Hello,
I'm having a bit of a problem. We recently upgraded our pbx from an older version of asterisk/freepbx to the most current version of each. In doing so, our Polycom 601s no longer seem to auto answer when trying to page the handsets. During the change over, we upgraded the firmware to 3.1.7.

Has anyone experienced this problem, and more to the point does anyone know of a way to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Latest firmware of Polycom's has been a bit off to me. Have been sticking with older versions.

The firmware update on your Polycoms is likely the problem, but easily fixed. We still use 3.1.6 for our 601s, but the auto answer settings probably haven't changed between versions.

In your sip.cfg (or sip_317.cfg) look for:

<alertInfo voIpProt.SIP.alertInfo.1.value=""

Change the string to:

<alertInfo voIpProt.SIP.alertInfo.1.value="Ring Answer"

Hope it helps...

Peter

Thanks Peter, Unfortunately the value we had was already set to "Ring Answer". We have reverted back to our original server and are undergoing a fresh re-install. We noticed a couple other issues with the first install and are hoping that starting from scratch my fix it all.

Interesting. BTW - does Asterisk support the ability to use the Broadsoft "talk" extension to force an answer of the phone?

ie: instead of using Alert-Info in the INVITE to do this, the server (ie: Asterisk here) would send a NOTIFY with Event: talk to tell the phone to answer.

Polycom does support this and it works very well (haven't tried in 3.1.7 though, but worked fine in 3.1.6).

This is more flexible than the Alert-Info method as the call can be answered at any point after the INVITE is sent (think desktop applications that can tell the phone to answer). We use this in contact center environments with my company's products. Virtually all SIP endpoints out there (except Cisco) support this method.

Anyways, was just curious. In the event that Polycom broke the Alert-Info and you need 3.1.7 for other things, this might be another way to achieve this.

Reference to the Broadsoft spec is at:

Look at the "Remote Control Talk Event Package" section.

My office is upgrading to Asterisk 1.8 from 1.4. We are having the same problem with the Polycom 601s. We have updated the config files with "Ring Answer" in the proper location. It still does not work. Has anyone come up with another solution? Is there a way to go back to 3.1.6 for the 601s? Is that recommended? Thanks!
