Could be a rocky road for open source platforms for the next few months...
Today we're launching Project Glasswing — a coalition with AWS, Anthropic, Apple, Broadcom, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Google, JPMorganChase, the Linux Foundation, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Palo Alto Networks to help secure the world's most critical software.
Glasswing is built around Claude Mythos Preview, our new limited-release frontier model, which has so far found thousands of zero-day vulnerabilities — including some that survived decades of human review — spanning every major operating system and browser. AI cyber capabilities at this level will proliferate over the coming months, and not every actor who gets access to them will be focused on defense. That's the gap Glasswing is built to close.
Our partners and 40+ other organizations maintaining critical infrastructure are using Mythos Preview to find and fix vulnerabilities in their own systems and across the open-source ecosystem. Anthropic is committing up to $100M in usage credits and $4M to open-source security organizations supporting this work, and we'll share what we learn so the broader industry can benefit. We're also in close communication with US government officials about Mythos Preview's offensive and defensive cyber capabilities and their implications for national security.
Cyber defense at this scale is a team effort. Frontier labs, software companies, security researchers, open-source maintainers, and governments all working together is how defenders will stay ahead.
