Sorry if this is addressed somewhere else in the Forums. I searched but couldn't find anything.

I have 5 Grandstream Budge Tone-200s and an spa3102. 3 of the Budgetones and the spa3102 are registering correctly and working well, but two of the phones won't register. I have tried deleting and recreating extensions, rebooting the phones, resetting the phones to factory default all to no avail. The phones are set to t*f*t*p boot with the address of my piaf server and when they boot the appear to be downloading bootss and config.

I have also tried manually setting the phones to match the account information on one of my phones that is registering correctly.

I have done a tail -f /var/log/messages when rebooting the phone and don't see anything there and there is not output int the asterisk cli when the phone boots. The phone does keep trying to download a config file every 30seconds or so.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-John

Hi

You may try watching the Asterisk CLI with SIP debugging on, which may give a clue. Also check the firmware of the phones, against the ones that are working. I had the same issue with some Aastra's the other day, that a firmware upgrade fixed.

Hi Joe,
Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the firmware and they are all the same. With sip debugging, all I'm seeing is stuff from my spa3102. I've tried setting sip debugging to use the ip of the phone I'm trying to get to register and there is no info coming up on the cli. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi

Are you getting the time coming up on the phone - point the NTP at 1.pool.ntp.org.

If the time comes up correctly, then you have proved that the phone is connected to the network.

You may also try pinging the phone from the PBX.

Joe

Yes I am getting the time, and I can ping the phone from the pbx. I'm using us.pool.ntp.org.

Ok so I found one thing that was a problem. The t*f*t*p server was not running. I have it running now and the phone is downloading the latest version of the grandstream firmware, but it's still not downloading any config info. Does anyone know what the name of the config file is supposed to be or how the piaf auto config stuff works?

Hi

you would need to configure the cfg files first, and that is not a feature, yet!

So you need to configure your phones manually, and configure them not to search for the t*f*t*p server.

Joe

Do you know how piaf handles auto-provisioning? Based on the setup of the first three phones, I assumed that when you created an extension, piaf would provision to the first new phone booted on the network. At least that's what it looked like when I set up the phones that are working now.

Here are the steps from the first three phones:
1. Create an extension in piaf.
2. Hook the phone up to the network and boot.
3. Go to the ip of the phone and set it to t*f*t*p and point it at my piaf server.
4. Reboot the phone.
5. Profit... The phone registers and I moved on to the next one.

If I need a mac_address.cfg, how does that work with auto-provisioning?

Thanks again,
-John

You could try changing the port on one of the phones to be sure it is not walking over some other device. Be sure there is no firewall issue.

I changed the port on both the phone and the extension in FreePBX. No luck.

I believe you will have to manually create each cfg file. That's what I did and it works great. If I need to make a adjustment it's a bit of a pain as you have to modify each cfg file.

Joe and Any,
Thanks for your help on this. I realized that the reason 3 of my phones were working was that those three had been set up with the trixbox endpoint manager on a previous installation. The phones I was having trouble with had never been setup. I now have all working and I'm using gsutil to upload text config files.

Thanks again,
-John
