clarkconnect - any SIP issues

I am thinking of replacing my linksys router with a clarkconnect embedded box. Any issues passing SIP info through this?

I also have a smoothwall box running which I like better, but clarkconnect has builtin LAMP so I can take down my other webserver and save electricity if I run it instead.

Any words of wisdom from those who have experimented with this?

I have been using ClarkConnect for years since prior to 2.0 and am always a late adopter. I have, within the last 6 months, just upgraded to CC 4.3CE.

I have absolutely no issues with SIP or anything else running through CC.

It is nice to be able to select a port forward rule and select a public IP From instead of a blanket port forward for any Internet IP.

You can also ensure VOIP, (or any other port/service/application), by IP and port, always reserves enough bandwidth and you can prioritize it.

Examples

Could you list your settings for "bandwidth rules" so I can get an idea of how this should be configured correctly? I am used to the QOS in DDWRT and the CC interface is still confusing for a newb ;)

No, sorry I wasn't clear. My PIAF box is standalone with a digium TDM4100.

My current setup is DD-WRT linksys WRT150N router->managed gigabit switch with QOS assigned with highest priority to all my VOIP stuff (PIAF server and 2 linksys 2 port ATA's). I also have a nokia N65 and N81 running as extensions when in range of the wireless.

My setup works well, but I was thinking about removing the router and putting an embedded system I've been testing with clarkconnect v5, in its place.

I don't want to mess up my connectivity so I'm trying to get all the info I need before making the switch. I do run a quake 3 server and webserver off another box currently, but was thinking about scaling down so I'm not using as much electricity.

Lopaka,

For actual QOS, go to the CC forums and do a search +QOS +VOIP and there are some scripts for WonderShaper and AstShaper that can be installed.

Have you installed CC yet on a spare PC? You will of course need two NICs. Once that is installed it is very easy to reserve and prioritize your traffic via the Network tab as I recall.

CC also has a full pdf manual.

In reality and until you have CC installed on something and have some hands on with the GUI it makes things a bit tough. Also on the CC forums is a complete script for bandwidth shaping and full instructions that allow a few options. STF for Easy Traffic Shaping for VOIP on the CC forums.

Lastly, the only thing I have done for my VOIP traffic is properly port forward 5060 and 10000 - 30000 + -, to my * box. Then I prioritized just the RDP traffic to ensure that I at least 1 meg up reserved for thos ports pointing to my * box and this was done was priority 1. Top priority was given to my VOIP. SO if someone is downloading somehting from my FTP at full speed, any VOIP would grab what is needed up tp 1 meg away from the FTP download slowing that not my telephone call.

I do have the CC v5 box up and running already. Everything works correctly but I haven't put it in front of the network yet, it has been running plugged into the WRT150 router and I've tested the content filtering and set everything there, I've got some webpages running, and also manually installed a quake 3 server that I run manually with using user account from SSH.

BTW, I did come across the script in the CC forums yesterday but wanted to make sure it was still necessary before loading.
Some of the chatter seemed to indicate that v5 had better QOS and I thought the wondershaper script might be outdated

Everythings up and seems to be running great. I'm impressed with clarkconnect. I'm getting a huge increase in throughput on both up and downloads compared to the WRT150N router that this embedded system replaced. I guess the 600 Mhz CPU and 1GB of ram helps it run smoother.

As far as I can tell Voip/SIP is working great and I haven't had any connectivity problems so far. The firewall is great although I wish it had some specific info regarding NID incidents in the web interface.

so you are running this on a seperate PC that you installed this on? 2 NICS I am assuming?
 
It doesn't come with power supply but I had a spare that worked. I'm using a +12v 6A power supply and the unit is supposed to have +12v 4A.

I ordered a second power supply from geeks.com for $13 for the other unit I bought which is a 533MHz VIA with similar looks/specs. The VIA is a lot more picky and I had a hell of a time getting smoothwall loaded on that one. You may want to email the seller. He's usually willing to cut a deal if you ask. I got a sweet 6 port Gigabit rackmount system from him a while back and he gave me a really good deal. I've been comtemplating grabbing one more of these celerys before they dissappear.

Nice machine. If I wasn't trying to go "low power" I'd be really tempted.

I've got another test box in the works that is also mini-itx, but pentium-M 2GHz, with 2 onboard realtek gigabit LAN and 1 low profile intel 1000 PCI. I'll be loading clarkconnect on this one also and testing the redundant features. The plan is to power it on occasionally to automatically mirror all settings and data, then in case of failure on the low power box I can put this one in it's place as a backup.

it seems as though these are getting hard to find. or google hates me. either one!!! lol :D
