I want ask if there is one tool or one general rule about the dimensoining of one installation. I found online only old posts, with references about hardware totally obsolete.
If today I install one system with one CPU I7 Skylake and 8 Gb of ram and one flash disk M.2, how many lines can I handle? How many calls can I do? If I want use the codec g729 can be a problem? Watching the old benchmarks I can take care not less than 1000 calls and I have no idea how many trunks.
Still make sense buy one server like HP ProLiant to have a professional installation? In my mind start to be bettere buy one couple of NUC NUC5i7RYH with harddrive M.2 and use the the second machine like backup ready to recover the first one.
Am I wrong? I am so happy to know some hopinion about.

You don't need that much RAM, an i7 and flash disk like that easily do 50 calls I would wager. G729 wouldn't matter with that many calls.

Really only get into scaling problems around 200 calls as far as I know.

If you are running a business on it then get a server.

Thank you about your answer, I have not a business, I just help some parents with medium installation, I don't know nobody have more than 200 calls, so my question is only theory he he.
I don't understand, why do you suggest one server about one business installation? Generally one server is more strong than one compact machine but more more expensive, I start to think maybe is better have two machines with less opportunity of upgrade but ready to replace the main machine. Can you explain me why this is not a good solution? Thank you in advice about your patient.

It's a matter of personal preference. I actually deploy on Hyper V virtual machines now all the time and replicate them to a datacenter. This way if a local one goes offline or there's a disaster situation, calls are quickly re-routed.

There's nothing wrong with using two cheaper desktops / NUC / SFF systems either. It's just a matter of what you prefer. Me I use servers for business because they're less likely to fail, but for home or even small business usage it doesn't really matter.
