If you only use broadband then I believe that Zaptel is unnecessary. If that's true, how do you permanently disable it?

Thanks,

Zaptel (or ztdummy) is required for timing purposes, specifically for IAX trunking and conferencing, and ensures that music on hold plays nicely. My advice is not to disable it.

However, you can set modules not to load in one of two ways.

1. edit /etc/sysconfig/zaptel, and comment out what you do not need.

2. compile it out, go to /usr/src/zaptel, and: -

make clean
./configure
make menuselect
; deselect what you don't want to load
make
make install

Note that update-source will bring back all the modules in option 2
