SOLVED E-Mail Settings

Hi all,

Incredible PBX is sending E-Mails from "[email protected]"

I tried to find the proper thread here in the forum and online but wasn't very successful.

Where can i change the from E-Mail Address and also probably set my own Mail server to be used for sending E-Mails?

My Mail Server rejects the E-Mails as spam and i honestly would whitelist the PBX IP as a last option.

More info would be helpful.
You have a VM somewhere and installed Incredible 2027 on some OS
You used the script to set up sendmail probably ./enable-gmail-smarthost-for-sendmail

You have manually edited the /etc/aliases file to redirect mail

Your /etc/hosts file looks like

Incredible PBX 2027 runs on a Debian 11 VM.

But as mentioned, I want to use my own external Mail Server (that is a dedicated Server) external.

So i would need settings, how to connect to an existing Mailbox on my external Mail Server to send the E-Mails via SMTP.

Well yes you can do that BUT you will be going off the reservation in which case you are on your own.
The tried and tested alternative is to use gmail as your smarthosthost and the emails can still be addressed to your work email addresses that you chose. That is why the above post indicates an address other than google, but google will hapilly relay your mails to you server.

And i would be again at the same as I am now as I'm sending e-mails only internally and my server doesn't allow relayed emails as it doesn't pass DMARC and DKIM Checks.

OK, than my alternative will be to whitelist the PBX IP to bypass the scans

You need to set the domain of the PBX server with a FQDM and a machine name like "mypbx.mydomain.com" and set an A record for "mypbx" to the IP address of it.

Your email server should then accept it along with making the changes at @ostridge mentioned.

Hi KNERD,

In my case, it's a little bit more complicated.

i have strict SPAM and Mail-Rules on my Mail-Server in place. Means that the Mail-System is checking if a server is authorized to use a domain for sending mails.

Done via DMARC, DKIM and SPF Records as well MX-Records.

A FQDN is not sufficient, as the Mail Servers sees that the Server is a complete different. I also don't allow servers that allow relaying a domain for sending E-Mails.

As a quick Solution, i Whitelisted the PBX from scanning on the Mail Server and the mails are now getting accepted.
