In using the Freepbx OSS EPM is it possible setup a phone to work remotely? I mean to enter the external IP of the WAN the system is behind. If it is there I have not found it yet. I can get the phones to work just fine by manually programming each phone. Just seems to cumbersome to do it that way.

Thanks

I wouldn't suggest that because it would involve opening ports on the firewall directly to the phone and that is a security risk...

Consider setting up a VPN and pushing the configs to the phones via the VPN instead, as it's much more secure.

Thanks jmcman.

I am just trying to find an easy way to setup these phones that will be offsite. In another life and another system, all I had to do was tell the system that the phone was going to be offsite and the system would push out the change. Then I could take the phone offsite and it would connect from anywhere. I believe I have seen an artiv=cle on "TravelingMan" Is that a good start then?

Thanks

I am curious about something similar in the fact that I would like to take a Polycom ip335 with me to sites and have it get connected back to the office.

If you use yealink phones, you can use the built in openvpn client to tunnel back to the pbx. All you would need is an openvpn server running on your firewall, or running somewhere on the same subnet, and have the openvpn port forwarded to it.
