All, my employer is considering hoteling/sharing of cubes and offices. I'm running and older version of Incredible with Snom 710 phones.

Is logging in and out of phones a thing? I've heard of it but I really don't need another thing to support. Since our users (about 80) all have laptops, I could move to softphones. Execs will be exempt from this idea and keep their desk phones (not likely they will allow the little people to share offices)

Thanks

What you are referrign to is called "hot desking."

Would help to know just how old the Incredble PBX is as things have changed.

shows Asterisk 11.7. Not sure where to find the Incredible version. Likely back to PIAF.

Its time to build a new IncrediblePBX and cut and paste from the old system. Asterisk is at 18.8 now. You're about 10 years behind. Hot-desking is available but you need to set up FreePBX in device/user mode. Do your research on current FreePBX and Asterisk features and then consider getting your employer's system up to current specs.

This might be a great opportunity for your system to move to a cloud-based architecture where you can build the new system and then transition off the old one when you're ready.

By the way, support for chan_sip is over. You'll need to brush up on chan_pjsip as you upgrade.

Thank you everyone. I'll likely stay on prem. We're still using a PRI via a Vega 100G. Voice quality is wonderful, no contention with other shit.

I'll start installing a new Incredible.

Hot desking works fine natively on Yealink, irrespective of what you have them connected to on the back end. I'm not sure about Snom.

You should be able to do a restore from an old back up. It's been a year since a did one from an old version. It was not perfect but it did the job for the most part.

Thank you I'll give that a shot.

That would be a FreePBX backup. You are likely still on FreePBX13 or lower so at least update all the modules on the old system before you make a FreePBX backup. There is no promise that it will restore correctly on FreePBX15 and above which IncrediblePBX2021 will be using.

After you initially install IncrediblePBX 2021, be sure to do an image backup or at least an IncredibleBackup2021 before you try to restore a FreePBX backup to the system.

Don't forget that you can also copy and paste a lot of settings from the old system to the new system since the restore of old system to new system has flaws. Also definitely take advice from @kenn10 and make sure you do a backup of IPBX2021 before you try to restore settings.

I use ClearlyIP phones for hotdesking with IncrediblePBX2021.
Actually, the CIP app on Freepbx coupled with their phones were actually created with this scenario in mind. The phones literally can have a button on top that say's Login. If using with their trunking, you can also integrate that with the E911 new constraints that you should look into.
