SOLVED How to make my VM and Fax to Email work

Not a follow able link. but it didn't work, try over :)

Ok. I removed Sendmail by this:
apt-get remove sendmail
apt-get purge sendmail*

Now I am going to follow the directions again and reinstall.

This whole thread ends up suggesting that postfix is a better solution for securing your MTA and emails than a plain old sendmail. adding those needed securities will be hard in sendmail

I have always said that and threw sendmail to the gutter 15 years ago

SPF DKIM and a solid forward and reverse DNS are outside of your MTA and absolutely requisite in 2021, but requiring TLS with solid certs and filtering of mail is so needed to stop you getting on a blacklist and Postfix is so much more competent preventing outgoing (and incoming) crap

Well. I did it. Removed Sendmail. Installed Postfix. Then, echo "This is the TEST body of the email" | mail -s "This is the TEST subject line" [email protected].

I did not receive that email.

and that recipe should work fine, but that is step one, /var/log/mail.log will now show you what is going on

you have a permissions problem. all this should be setup as root and not via sudo

post

ps aux|grep postfix

I corrected the "inet_interfaces: host not found: all" to "inet_interfaces = loopback-only"

I suspect that the host blocks port 25

How can I change from Port 25 to Port 26?

Why would you want to do that? for a send only MTA your smtp port is totally irrelevant

fix your servers presence on the internet first, /etc/mailname needs to be resolvable, But I really think you should start over from step one, it really is not that hard and few will spoon-feed you through the absolute basics

No, I am saying "cool your jets, slow the fcuk down, RTFM, have a coffee, RTFM again then try over" repeat as necessary

wildly-successful.com is in mailname. Where should it be pointing?
pbx1.wildly-successful.com takes me to my Asterisk Ip address.

I don't really know what you mean by "needs to be resolvable"

Didn't I suggest you RTFM? you are messing with email before you know what you are doing, DON'T do that. Get your mail server working first. your mailname should be the same as your domain names MX record

If my Host blocks Port 25 because they don't want outbound emails from an SMTP server, then changing the port that Postfix uses to Port 26 makes sense. Don't you think?

Didn't I suggest you RTFM? you are messing with gmail before you know what you are doing, DON'T do that. Get your mail server working first.
I never even mentioned GMAIL in our conversation (yours and mine). I have not even tried to configure Gmail into the Postfix equation.
