QUESTION Linksys SPA2002 Power Supply --

I have had a 2002 active for many years. Over the weekend, it died.

In checking the PS, I see only 1.5 VDC, whereas the unit is labeled as needing 5 VDC. I rummaged around and found a couple of other 5 VDC bricks, but none of them seem to be powering un the SPA.

So two questions: Does anyone happen to have an actual Linksys PS (Model AD 5V/2F) no longer in use, or does anyone have a SPA and PS they want to get rid of?

Linksys SPA2002 uses a plain vanilla DC wall adapter with a 5.5mm barrel connector (2.5mm inner size). The adapter should be rated 5V DC @2amp. But I've been able to make it work with a smaller 1.5A adapter.
My suggestion: Find a 5V 1.5 to 2 Amp. adapter. If its connector is not a 5.5 mm barrel type, then cut the DC connector off. Do the same with your existing, broken power supply. Splice the wires and connect them together (twist positive to positive, negative to negative). Make sure to isolate them well (electrical tape should do it). You will be good to go. You can use a 6V DC source as well. The SPA has an on board voltage regulator too, it will take up to 6V DC.

@phonebuff ... Check out eBay ... but beware that eBay lists a few power supplies for the SPA2002 that supply 12 volts. Using a 12V supply with your SPA2002 will instantly fry the internals of the device! The SPA2002 requires a power supply that delivers 5V, and 2 (or more) amps.

Search specifically for a "5V 2A Cisco Linksys power supply" or look for adapters listed for the Linksys SPA2102, SPA3102, or PAP2T. Those models share the exact same 5V / 2A center-positive power specification as the SPA2002.

You should be able to get replacement power supply for under $15 US. or even less than $10 on Amazon. But again, be careful about selecting a 5V output voltage power supply.
