The title says it all - so I had to restart them from the OracleCloud Dashboard.
After I restarted the openVPN I opened ssh sessions and used the reboot script for good measure.
I found that in freepbx userman module had been 'disabled pending update' so I had to update that too, its now at
User Management 15.0.69.14 Stable Sangoma Technologies Corporation AGPLv3+ Enabled.

Here is the OracleCloud Notice

In what way were they idle? Were they stopped or what? If you have something running in the VM, I don't understand how Oracle would determine they are idle.

I have several IncrediblePBX2027 instances on Oracle. They are "running" without any extensions registered but the trunks are active so there is IO traffic on the VM.

They had been 'stopped' at least that is what it said on the 'instances' page on oracles web dashboard. Not sure what definition of 'idle' though I did see a reference somewhere to 10% cpu over 7 days or something. Obviously there was IO from trunks and VPN and from occasional ssh.
There had been warning so I had to check at 0:00 hrs UTC and stopped they were. VPN down and ssh too until I restarted

"If these instances continue to be identified as idle, they will be stopped on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 00:00 UTC. If your idle Always Free compute instance is stopped, you can restart it as long as the associated compute shape is available in your region. You can keep idle compute instances from being stopped by converting your account to Pay As You Go (PAYG). With PAYG, you will not be charged as long as your usage for all OCI resources remains within the Always Free limits."

Just checked my 3 in US East and they're all still chugging along. Fine little honeypots.

Same here. No issues with them being shut down. However, I haven't been able to snag a new A1 instance in 2 weeks. All three USA East sites are out of capacity. I suspect this is happening throughout the sites and Oracle is trying to dump unused instances to free up capacity.

Late to the Oracle Cloud offer and joined a couple of weeks ago. I've checked a few times each day and not once have I seen an A1 or Micro instance available on Chicago.

With just a week left to go on my trial I finally got my requested limit increase on regions. Was able to create some free tier A1 instances on the Ashburn and Phoenix ADs this evening.

I send an email to the sales person who kept emailing me about the service. I finally emailed the person back saying I could never get a server to test. NO RESPONSE.

I also got one of those emails this morning. In it they stated that I could extend the trial an extra 30 days. All I needed to do was reply to the message. So I went ahead and replied while mentioning that I hadn't actually had a chance to use what I intended because no compute shapes were available. Also that I had a request pending to get access to the other datacenters for over a week. It was probably just a coincidence though that the limit was raised on the same day.
