my pbxiaf installs (2) had been working great up until 2 days ago. All of the sudden, no trunks register. can't make any outside call at all. Everything else works fine according to the server status block.

Is this a symptom of something? All of my other WAN & LAN network, seem to work fine.

The second machine was my previous one, just in case i need a backup and it also doesn't work.

The dell sc440 can't even downloads the scripts...

Getting updated scripts/program package......
Code:
The pbx-scripts.tar.gz file did not download. There was an error
Please try again later

any thoughts on what I can look at to figure this out?

Hi

Is it DNS issues? can you ping the outside world by name.

Has anything changed in your network?

Joe

Nothing changed at all which is why its so strange, most things on my network seemed to be running okay.

It must have been a DNS issue, since i went into webmin and added some DNS entries that were in my router and everything seems to work now.

I tried to setup Bind earlier, but without outward access (from the pbxiaf box) i obviously couldn't set it up. You think I should set it up now?

Thanks for the quick reply. Could it be a sign of a router failure?

At risk of repeating myself, I do prefer to be as independent as possible from the rest of the network, this includes using BIND to do DNS, and IP tables to do the firewalling, both of which I trust more than the router that was supplied free of charge with your broadband link, and therefore by definition was probably the cheapest available.

I would suggest you set up BIND, by going into Webmin, then setting the DNS server as 127.0.0.1, and finally type setup at the command line, and in services, get "named" to start automatically.

After doing what you said w/ bind and named, and some uneventful days , today I can't access the main menu of the pbs without disabling the firewall in setup.

The pbx is behind a router, a decent one with the ubicom stream engine (not cheap at the time) with great reviews. trying to access the pbx locally.

any thoughts on if this is what should have happened. seems strange since after i enabled bind and named I was able to log on until today.

Hi

Just check in webmin | networking | linux firewall to check that everything is OK with the firewall set up, e.g. the standard ports are open.

If bind was going to cause any problems, then they would have been apparent immediately, not a few days later, I would doubt whether the two were related.
