QUESTION Outbound call failure

On occasion all of our PBX's (different asterisk versions, different platforms) will occasionally give end users an "all circuits are busy" message on outbound calls. Reloading asterisk fixes this.

Its exceedingly rare (once a year perhaps twice) but I'd like to have Asterisk reload when it has this problem. I wondered in the trunk config in freepbx if a custom application could be setup to reload asterisk; if so I can set that as the congestion destination and append the "your call cannot be completed as dialed" message to prompt the user to call it again.

Thoughts?

You're certain its not your carrier? I got a cron job that will check to make sure the correct number of Asterisk Services are running and if it's not correct, it will do an Amportal Restart. Want it?

I've also been playing with Nagios - which is awesome - that could probably do what you want, but I haven't gotten into those types of details with it yet.

Yes, I'm sure it's not the carrier. The calls fail until I do a reload (don't even need to amportal restart), then immediately work again (and the carriers are Anveo Direct and Voip Innovations. While VI has had some DoS issues lately, they've been fine for quite some time and it's happened for years. It's REALLY rare).

Thanks for the offer of the cron - it would be worth looking at for various reasons but not this one. Nagios you're right is super powerful and could probably tail the log looking for the failed message. I had not thought of that approach. I'm not a Nagios guy (Windows is my thing, and Nagios likes Linux and isn't very GUIish) but I could probably figure that out somehow.

It's hardly urgent but I wondered if anyone had already come up with something.
