Hey Ward, if you're cruising the forum and happen to see this post one of the things that would be great is to have a PIAF spin for Asterisk Realtime (mysql please) and a backend config for FreePBX that would allow FreePBX to manage Asterisk realtime. That would really blow the doors off a lot of distros.

Regards,
Gerry

University of Calgary (Alberta Canada) developed a real-time MySQL backend for Asterisk for their campus - saw it about year and a half ago.

All new phones are VoIP and if they were to replace their 12,000 legacy PBX phones, they estimate that the regular update (Apply configuration changes) would take about 10 minutes.

Right now they are handling about 500 calls and are using about 5% of their cpu resources.

They have a Cisco router for a hardware solution for 4x T1 lines to SIP transcoding. One server for Asterisk + voicemail , another for MySQL, and another as a file server. They figure that it can handle about 15,000 calls.

Cool! - I new they were using Asterisk on Campus but didn't know the details.
All in our own back yard!
