resolv.conf Issues

In the last couple of system builds, the systems had issues finding the PiaF site to download payload. On both I had to remove 'search local' from resolv.conf and add my DNS names:

nameserver 4.2.2.1
nameserver 198.6.1.4
#search local

Am I missing something or is this a bug?

Hi

I would suspect issues with your DHCP server on your network.

hmm, seems to work for other stuff here - is 'search local' a valid entry for resolv.conf?

Hi

Normally when Centos boots up and picks up an address from DHCP, a script will run that fills in some details of the DNS servers in resolv.conf, so if DHCP on your network was working as it should, then the address would be picked up and placed in resolv.conf.

Of course the issue may lie in some weirdness with your particular brand of network card. Have you always used the same card, or have you changed for the last 2 PBX's

If this was a bug, given the large numbers of installs, then I suspect that it would have been more widely reported. The recent installs I have done have been fine.

Dhcp

Would that still hold true if you set a static IP address on the PIAF? I need my PBX to be at a fixes address and use netconfig to set it. Since no call to DHCP, no nameserver in resolv.conf. I have to add nameservers manualy.

Alternate method would be to use DHCP and a reservation for the PBX.

I tend to use "setup" and navigate to set up my network there rather than use netconfig.

However, this does not set the DNS servers, so I either do that manually via editing resolv.conf, or better, don't rely on someone else's DNS, install BIND. This is easily done via webmin, under servers/bind, particularly if you do it before you move onto a fixed IP address.
