Hi,

When checking the documentation for PIAF on RaspberryPi 2 it says the system will use SendMail to send mail. But when I check on the system only PostFix is running. When I try and start SendMail I get:

Starting Mail Transport Agent (MTA): sendmailhostname: Name or service not known
start-stop-daemon: unable to stat /usr/sbin/sendmail-mta (No such file or directory)
/etc/init.d/sendmail: 296: /etc/init.d/sendmail: /usr/sbin/sendmail-msp: not found

Is this correct or is something wrong? I have just installed the latest version of PIAF.
Thanks

Best Regards

Geoff

Hi, I believe that you installed piaf which loads sendmail,
Then you downloaded / ran the script to install Incredible FAX, which installs postfix, so now if you type
# status
Then you may notice that status for Sendmail = Dn .
You need to config a working Postfix as MTA or else convert back to remove sendmail install postfix. You may need to clear up some funnies along the way.

Someone better versed in MTAs should hopefully pass by.

Could anyone answer why Piaf and Incredible Fax don't stick to using the same mail? Would make it easier all round.

You're more than welcome to fix anything you don't like. It's GPL open source code unlike some of the competition.

Now you know the why - you can start to config postfix - there are lots of postfix / linux questions /debian sites where you may get better answers to the linux specific questions.
I just started again with the new version and left astrifax off for now.
Good luck

Let me directly respond to Geoff Newnham now that I've cooled off a bit. The short answer is that various open source components of both the PIAF and Incredible PBX products are developed by many different people. Some prefer SendMail while others love Postfix. In order to bring many of these technologies to everyone quicker, we incorporate the solutions which are currently available even if they don't happen to match our personal preferences. As time permits, we work through adapting them to more closely blend with our existing products. We've now done this with the Incredible Fax addition on the Ubuntu platform. But... there are only so many hours in the day. So, by all means, roll up your sleeves and pitch in if there is something that doesn't quite suit your view of the universe. If you don't know how to do it yourself, then be grateful that you've got something that works. Your other option is to look elsewhere and pay someone several hundred dollars to add a fax component that you get for free by using what's available here. :gnorsi:
