Simple Hotel Style Wake-Up Calls – THE MODULE

Wake up calls are being sent with no CallerID despite the information being filled in on the page. If I go in phpMyAdmin and remove the quotation mark characters around the name Wake Up Calls then it works, but then if I change anything on the page and save it stops working until I go back into phpMyAdmin and remove the quotation marks again.

Interesting.
What distribution are you using this on?
Did you have any previous versions of Wake Up Calls on your system?

Elastix, and none that I'm aware of. I had not installed one previously and I'm fairly sure none comes with Elastix. But I don't think this is an Elastix issue, since Elastix also uses FreePBX - I just think Asterisk doesn't like quotation marks around names as much as we are led to believe. Maybe they are a remnant from a much earlier version of Asterisk? I know Asterisk changes from version to version, is it perhaps possible that very early versions required the quotation marks but that Asterisk 1.4 doesn't like them?

(And before you ask, yes I did change the password in wake.inc to match what Elastix uses).

By the way...

I was wondering, instead of using the password in wake.inc, why not simply read /etc/amportal.conf and use the AMPDBUSER and AMPDBPASS values there to access the MySQL database? That way the user would not need to manually check or change the password.

We are preparing an upgrade to the module that will address the id/password situation, and a couple of other small clean ups in the user interface.

Now's a good time to get any requests like this in to us so they can be considered for inclusion in the update.

Hmm. No, I use 1.4 with this and it likes it. When you set Caller ID for a trunk, do you include the quotes around "Name", and the greater than-less then for the number <1234567> ? This is the syntax the module supports -

I'm afraid I have no experience with Elastix. Has anyone else experienced this?

Nope, I NEVER under ANY circumstances use quotes around names in Caller ID - it's always choked for me when I try to use them and I have never had a problem when I don't - I didn't use them in Asterisk@Home, nor during the short period when we tried PiaF, and now we don't do it in Elastix (and I'm pretty sure it's not Elastix per se, because it just uses plain-vanilla FreePBX underneath).

Our Outbound CID strings all look like this:

John Doe <2345552368>

I have no idea why the quotes cause outgoing Caller ID to fail on our system - it's just always been that way, going back to the days of Asterisk@Home (and we have started over with a completely new system at least three times since then, so it's not an issue of carrying over something from an old database - we re-entered all the settings manually using the GUI each time). As I think I said elsewhere, I just always assumed that Asterisk changed they way they processed the string and never updated the documentation. If you say they work for you, I have no idea why there's a difference - maybe some obscure difference in settings somewhere, though I can't imagine what setting might affect this.

Working

TShif:
I got the operator mode working. I just changed the extension verification setting in the config file to the opposite then back.

Thanks!

Also, my wake up calls do not display CID.
It does show on outbound calls, and ext. to ext.

I've been using the Wake-Up Calls feature several times a day for the past week and it has been SOLID!

I haven't had a single issue with the caller ID not showing up (it shows up as "Wake Up Calls").

Removing the quotes gave me the CLID. How do I get it to stay?

Avoid using the Hotel Style Wakeup Calls Interface to update.

I would really like to discover why some systems reject the quotes - and others want them.

Are you sure any really "want" them to the degree that they won't work if you omit the quotes?

Anyway, you have a text box for "Wake Up Caller ID" - why not simply take what the user puts in there and not add quotes? Just put a note underneath that most systems will require quotes around the name (IF that's actually the case, but I'd test that first, you may find that none REQUIRE the quotes) but a minority of systems will not send the Wake Up Caller ID if the name is quoted. That way if the system requires the name quoted the quotes can be added, and if not they can be omitted, same as when you construct a Caller ID string for an extension.

Lost-
Not a bad idea. Ill do some testing as see how it works out.

Hotel Wake Up Calls - 1.1.0 Beta

NOTE: The download links in this article are obsolete. They have been left here for archival purposes. You should download the newest version from the lilnk in the first article of this thread.

Ok - to address some of the peculiar problems being experienced by certain systems that do not like quotation marks around the textual portion of the caller ID, I have put together a new version for you to test.

During testing - this version worked equally well on systems that the previous version worked fine on. This suggests that it should work for everyone who has the previous version - but needs to be tested a bit.

I have no way of testing out if it will help you folks who have had the problem - so please jump in now and test this version. It it works - Ill make it the current version of the module.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.
