One thing I've noticed is that the IVR takes a few seconds to answer when I call into the system. So callers hear one ring, then silence on the line for about 6 seconds or so until the message is played.

Does anyone else see this?

My guess would be that fax detection was in this mix. If you don;t need it, check that fax detection is disabled.

Can you confirm that the delay is not present when calling the IVR directly from an internal extension?

Some other possibilities:
  1. The delay is part of the recording
  2. The calls are coming in on analog trunks that will wait to answer the call until the CID shows up between ring 1 and 2
  3. There is a "pause after answer" value set on the inbound route in question (refers again to Astrosmurf's fax suggestion)

- No delay in the recording
- The call is coming in via a Google Voice Trunk
- Pause after answer is not set.

This also appears to be sporadic...maybe this is a RAM/CPU issue. I'm running it in VMWare Fusion on my Mac Mini Server.... 2GB of dedicated RAM though....

Minor details that would have been helpful from the start.

Problem is sporadic.
PIAF is running as a virtual machine. With what else running?
VMWare Fusion, running on a Mac Mini (That ain't no server!)

Possible causes, timing issues from running as a VM. CPU contention. Memory contention.

Did you set the fax extension on the General Settings page to "disable"? If yes, there is a likelihood that your issue is due to the platform you are running PIAF on .

There is no "Fax Extension" under General Settings

While sporadic, it is fairly reproducible in the last few weeks. No changes to server in the last 60 days.

The server is also running Plex and Indigo. Neither uses more than 100MB of RAM and 1% or less of CPU when idle.

I humbly beg to differ: http://www.apple.com/macmini/server/
