I am getting ready to nuke my home piaf box (1.4.x) and make the jump to the latest and greatest bleeding edge version! Yup, I am a gluten for punishment, and I do NOT mean from PIAF. I have so heavily modified the box with routes, shortcuts, custom extensions, you name it, I have monkeyed with it just 'cause I could that I know I will not get it all back together. Anyway, it made me think, sure wish there was a button I could press that would spit out all the various configs, like trunks, extensions, in/out routes, etc. I just know I will forget to write down a password somewhere and be in trouble once I click "nuke"!

Nope no button. I have been thinking that would be a good commercial project.

Really you are at a crossroads especially if you are going to update to a different version of asterisk.

One of my favourite ways is to simply take a lot of screen captures. Especially when I am moving from asterisk 1.4 to 1.8 etc...

Another method is to install to a new box and then bring up the old one and copy and past as needed.

backup and restore works some of the time but when going to dissimilar versions "odd" things can happen.

Unfortunately I don't have a second identical box. Hmm, got me thinkin' tho. Wonder if I can convert the existing hard drive to a vmware virtual machine and bring it up under Fusion on my Mac. I have done test installs into Fusion with no problems so I am sort of sure it would run enough for me to have both the old and new Piaf's running as you suggested. Oh, this is going to be a long night...... <grin>
