Hello All,

We're having an outage at our office. First in 9yrs - Luckly covid and the office is sparsely populated. Mostly millennials that don't know what a phone is. But we have some old foggies that love them.

We have a PRI coming into a Sangoma Vega 100G, that has a sip connection to our Incrediblepbx. All was fine Monday. Today reports no inbound or outbound calls. Congestion, or just calls failing some manner or another.

I've rebooted everything. As a workaround I setup a subaccount at voip.ms and have outbound calls flowing over that.

My question
1. I have a call into our provider-Granite Telecommunications but in the meantime is there a way I can test the PRI or something? maybe from the Sangoma?

Thank you

Do you have another Vega100G box that you can swap in to ensure that the problem is not with it?
Also, have you checked Vega's logs? They may shed some light on what's going on, at least on the outbound side.

That's how it looks. Does Granite Telecom have a fail safe, like sending the incoming calls to sip voip?
I remember that in a different thread you said that eliminating the PRI was not an option, but maybe in light of this occurrence, albeit rare, you should reconsider.
I went through something similar almost a decade ago and I got away from all our PRI (and other hybrids) at all our facilities almost overnight. With the money saved and zero downtime since I regret that I didn't do it even sooner.

Thanks for all the replies. So as stated I'm using VOIP.ms I have a main account and a subaccount.

The main account (for another office) is working fine. In and out. This sub account well outbound from the office with the outage is working but inbound isnt.

in the VOIP.MS portal its't not clear how to route inbound calls on a subaccount. Anyone have any tips?

Thank you

I figured it out. Routing...oye. Thank you

If your phone numbers are with Granite Telecom, only they can route them to another provider like voip.ms.

You may also have other DIDs with voip.ms that you can use as alternate phone numbers for your incoming calls, but that won't fix the issue with your main phone numbers at Granite which are currently down (for incoming calls).

The outbound is not an issue as your PBX can send all your outbound calls to voip.ms with spoofed caller IDs.
The people that you call won't know whether the calls are coming off of your PRI trunks or SIP trunks.

If Granite has a fail safe, then it can route your incoming calls on your main phone numbers with them, to voip.ms. How quickly they can do that depends on their service setup. Ideally, it's somthing that they allow you to do over a web portal in minutes, so that you can say "for such and such phone number I want the incoming calls to go to my account at voip.ms via sip". Then it usually takes 5-10 mn for the system to fit the new routing scheme and suddenly your incoming calls are not coming on PRI but over sip to voip.ms then from there to your pbx over the Internet.

Granite says it's part of an outage. I've successfully had our main number forwarded to our voip.ms DID. Inbound and outbound are working. Of course our DIDs aren't but calls work to the main number.

It's good I have an auto attendant setup so callers can enter a DID or name to connect to a desk phone.

Thank you Halea!

PRI's are super reliable but it sure is a pain when they go out or the gateway blows out. I never liked the Vega's I changed to a Yeastar one that worked great (and was cheap) when I was still managing one a few years ago. Mind you no reliability issues for yours . . . but just in case you needed a standby as those things are hard to get on short notice if they do go.

I'll look into the Yeastar. Thanks for the tip. I haven't looked at the Vega in years. Not sure how I even set it up. I'm not PRI savvy.

There are 4 days in a year that the phones can't go down. Those 4 are the quarterly earnings calls. (I work for a public company). After that, management are reasonable with this shit.
